I walked over to the Wild Leek from my hotel upon arriving in Halifax. Sadly, they were temporarily closed with a sign on the door when I walked up to the restaurant. Some of their kitchen equipment wasn’t working. However, I was delighted that they were back up and running later in the day.

Wild Leek offers delivery service with Uber Eats and Skip the Dishes. I ordered the Supreme Buffalo Mac & Cheese: mac and cheese topped with crispy chick’un and a coconut crusted onion ring. It was very delicious and very filling!

Real Fake Meats is Halifax’s first vegan butcher shop. They offer all kinds of vegan meats, cheeses, dips and more for you to bring home and create your own culinary masterpiece. They also have a takeout menu as it’s a smaller establishment and there aren’t too many places to sit (although there is a small counter by the window where you can dine in).

enVie - A Vegan Kitchen - Vegan restaurants in Halifax

I really really wanted to visit enVie: A Vegan Kitchen as I’ve heard it is one of the best vegan restaurants in Halifax. Unfortunately, it wasn’t in the cards this time around. They are closed Sunday/Monday/Tuesday and those were the days that I was in Halifax. I really hope to visit next time.

They have several mains like a Pad Thai, orange chick’n, sweet chili wrap, and mushroom melt burger. They are starters/sharables/sides like chili cheez fries and dumplings. The menu is 100% my taste, so I was really disappointed that I couldn’t visit. But, it’s one reason to return to Halifax ASAP!

Heartwood Bakery and Cafe - Vegan restaurants in Halifax

Heartwood is one of the very first vegetarian restaurants in Halifax. They’ve been around for more than 25 years. Even though it’s a vegetarian restaurant, they have an incredible amount of vegan options. Essentially, almost everything on the menu is either vegan or can be prepared vegan.

I ordered one of their delicious bowls with peanut sauce and tofu. It was an excellent choice, loaded up with veggies and root vegetables, so I felt pretty healthy! In addition to their regular menu, they also offer a weekend brunch. Visit their full restaurant or their waterfront cafe (with a more limited menu), Heartwood By The Sea.

Dilly Dally

They also have a few vegan menu items for lunch, like avocado toast and the tomato basil soup bowl. There are a couple of other meals that I’m sure could be prepared vegan as well. Just ask the staff!

While not all of the donuts are vegan, they have their own little plant-based section. Every doughnut with a “V” is vegan. There are usually five or six vegan donuts at Fortune Doughnut. The salted caramel Boston cream was amazing! This is where you’ll find the best vegan doughnuts in Halifax.

Glitter Bean Cafe

Glitter Bean Cafe

Glitter Bean Cafe is “Halifax’s first queer centered union co-op cafe”, and they are working to provide a safe community space for queer, two-spirit, and trans people in K’jipuktuk (Halifax). The cafe is a worker owned co-op that began when employees of a former business created an alternative to their old, toxic work environment.

Glitter Bean Cafe happens to be very vegan-friendly, too. They have all kinds of fancy lattes and colourful drinks, though I highly recommend trying their signature Fairy Latte. It’s a sugary tea latte that tastes like candy, and it even has glitter on top!
