Best Vegan Restaurants in Puerto Vallarta That You’ll Love

These are the best vegan restaurants in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Did you know that Puerto Vallarta is a very vegan-friendly destination? While we loved visiting Playa del Carmen for the vegan food, Puerto Vallarta is perhaps even a little bit better than PDC when it comes to vegan eats.

We spent one week in Puerto Vallarta and had the chance to try lots of vegan and veg-friendly restaurants during our vacation. Justin and I stayed at an all-inclusive resort, Dreams Vallarta Bay, which had a good amount of vegan food. However, we really wanted to get away from the resort and try as many of the local establishment as we could.

Vegan restaurants Puerto Vallarta

These are the best vegan restaurants in Puerto Vallarta, mostly focusing on Mexican fare. I know that I wanted to eat all of the vegan Mexican food when I was in PV! However, we also found some Italian restaurants, some healthy dining options, and even a vegan ramen restaurant that you need to add to your list.

Vegan Restaurants Puerto Vallarta: 100% Vegana Taqueria

100% Vegana Taqueria

100% Vegana Taqueria is my favourite vegan restaurant in Puerto Vallarta, if I had to choose just one. Thankfully, I don’t have to choose only one as we frequented several restaurants. This little restaurant is really something special! It’s just a small spot that looks like it’s inside a garage. But, you’ll have some of the very best tacos in Puerto Vallarta right here.

100% Vegana Taqueria

The chef makes all of the vegan meats on the grill, and there’s also some items that are deep fried. You can order tacos, burgers, and side dishes. We started with some fresh pineapple water that was so tasty. There are also little dishes with various kinds of salsa, guacamole and limes to squeeze on your tacos.

Justin and I ordered several different tacos (pastor, asada, chorizo de garbanzo, and birria). We also ordered guacamole and chips. Our favourites of all the tacos were the birria for Justin, and I loved the chickpea chorizo ones the most. We ended up ordering second helpings of those ones!

Vegan Puerto Vallarta: Mr. Vegan

Mr Vegan- Vegan restaurants Puerto Vallarta

Mr. Vegan was the closest vegan restaurant to our resort, Dreams Vallarta Bay, under a 10 minute walk away. It’s nestled down a quiet little street off a main road in town. There is room for indoor dining and two spaces on the small patio. Justin and I dined outdoors because it was such a beautiful day outside.

It’s really interesting because you scan the QR code to get the menu, and it’s available over Whatsapp. You also place your order through Whatsapp! I’ve never done this before, but it made ordering our meal really easy. While our server didn’t speak English and we don’t speak any Spanish, we seemed to communicate really well somehow and our order arrived perfectly.

Justin and I ordered vegan sopes, gorditas, and chilaquiles. Everything was so delicious and the perfect vegan Mexican feast. We weren’t able to finish everything as the portions were a good size, and the prices were great, too. We’d definitely return to Mr. Vegan – gotta love the name of this restaurant, too!

Vegan Restaurants Puerto Vallarta: The Green Place

The Green Place - Vegan restaurants Puerto Vallarta

The Green Place is a beautiful restaurant and cafe in Puerto Vallarta. Murals and brightly coloured art is splashed across all of the walls. This is the perfect spot to dine for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert. It also looks like a great place to bring your laptop and get some work done, as we saw a few people doing.

There are many fantastic dishes on the menu, which made it difficult to choose. There’s a separate menu for breakfast (smoothie bowls, chilaquiles, toasts, pancakes, etc). Justin and I went to this restaurant for dinner. We ordered a plate of nachos to share, fruit smoothies, tacos, and a hot dog. I originally wanted the burrito, but it was sold out. But, this chili cheese hotdog was super good! No regrets.

There are plenty of other great selections on the menu, like four different kinds of burgers, three different sandwiches, the Buddha bowl, spring rolls, salads, and so much more. We also returned to The Green Place one night to pick up dessert, and brought the vegan chocolate cake slices back to our hotel.

Vegan Ramen Mei

Vegan Ramen Mei

Vegan Ramen Mei is a 100% vegan ramen restaurant inside the Ten to Ten hostel in Puerto Vallarta. If you’ve eaten one too many tacos and want something different, head to Vegan Ramen Mei. It was one of my favourite vegan restaurants in Puerto Vallarta. This place was packed when we visited – there were only seats at the bar available. That’s always a good sign!

There are several different kinds of vegan ramen. I ordered the mapo tofu dish, which was savory and satisfying. You can also order starters and appetizers like fried chicken and edamame. I also had a glass of the very berry lemonade, which was super refreshing and yummy.

Vegan Restaurants Puerto Vallarta: Elixir Spot

Elixir Spot is one of the best vegan restaurants in Puerto Vallarta and rated as one of the best by locals and visitors alike. It’s a plant-based cafe and juice bar with acai bowls and smoothie bowls, avocado toast, tacos, and so much more. The smoothie bowls here look like works of art and taste even better. The service is fast and friendly. The local family who owns Elixir Spot is passionate about creating delicious and healthy vegan food.

Vegan Restaurants Puerto Vallarta: Playa Detox

Playa Detox is a 100% vegan restaurant in Puerto Vallarta with a focus on healthy eating. With a name like Playa Detox, I’m sure you figured as much! It is a health food cafe, juice and smoothie bar. If you want to avoid the faux meats, you can try a veggie burger made out of veggies at Playa Detox. There are also tacos, falafel, pizza, soup, and vegan breakfast items. It’s healthy, plant-based dining that tastes great!

Vegan Restaurants Puerto Vallarta: Vegan Inc

Vegan Inc is a chain of vegan restaurants in Mexico, with locations in Puerto Vallarta, Tulum, Mexico City and more. There’s a whole variety of vegan eats here, featuring everything from pizza and tacos to burgers and sushi. There’s really something for every taste!

Unfortunately, we didn’t visit Vegan Inc because there were a whole slew of bad reviews about this place online. If there’s only one or two bad reviews accompanied by good ones, I’ll usually let it slide. However, pretty much every review said that this restaurant did not have good food and it was overpriced.

If I had more time in Puerto Vallarta and I had already tried every other place, I’d visit Vegan Inc to see if they’ve changed. But, I don’t have any personal experience with this restaurant. I recommend visiting some other vegan restaurants in Puerto Vallarta before you check this one out.

Restaurante Vegetariano Mary

I really loved dining at Restaurante Vegetariano Mary. It’s funny how there is a little vegan quarter in Centro where you’ll find this restaurant, The Green Place, 100% Vegana Tacqueria, and La Traviata (not vegan, but vegan-friendly) all on the same block or two (same street, too!). This is one of the best vegan restaurants in Puerto Vallarta, hands down.

Much like 100% Vegana Taqueria, the chef prepares all of the vegan meats on the grill. He makes them into tacos and quesadillas, and you’re welcome to put your own toppings on them from the little buffet of toppings and sauces.

You can choose from three tacos (pastor, asada and birria), quesadillas (we got tacos and quesadillas), vegan pizza, and vegan burgers. In the evenings, Restaurante Vegetariano Mary becomes an entirely vegan taqueria. There’s also a vegan breakfast buffet (wish I had dined here for breakfast!). I feel like the menu is mostly always vegan, with the occasional vegetarian item.

Planeta Vegetariano

Planeta Vegetariano is a very famous and popular vegetarian buffet restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. This all day buffet features a salad bar, raw foods, hot foods, soup, and juices. The majority of the items at the buffet are vegan and the menu is changing daily. If you have any questions, ask the staff. They’ll be able to show you which items aren’t vegan (most of them are). You’ll find some of the best vegan food in Puerto Vallarta here. Come hungry!

Puerto Vallarta Vegetarian: Veggitalia

Veggitalia Pizza & Osteria Vegetariana is an entirely vegetarian Italian restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. We really wanted to go to this one, but it ended up being closed on the evening we were out in town. Justin and I ended up going to La Traviata instead (next on this list of vegan-friendly restaurants in Puerto Vallarta).

La Traviata isn’t entirely vegetarian and vegan, but Veggitalia caters to plant-based and veggie diets. Anything on the menu can be prepared vegan, just ask the staff. There’s pizza, pasta, and even vegan tiramisu. This one is definitely on my list for next time!

La Traviata (Vegan-Friendly Restaurant)

La Traviata - Vegan Friendly Restaurant in Puerto Vallarta Mexico

The photo above shows the sunset views from La Traviata, an Italian restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. Isn’t it beautiful? This is a rooftop restaurant – you’ll need to take the elevator up to the fifth floor to reach this establishment. It’s open-air dining at its finest, and see if you can get a table near the wall to be able to gaze out at this scenery.

La Traviata - Vegan Friendly Restaurant in Puerto Vallarta Mexico

There is an extensive Italian menu, although there are only a few items on it that are vegan or vegan-friendly. Definitely try the pizza if you dine here. There’s a vegan pizza that comes with vegan cheese, and you can add four vegetable toppings of your choice. I added mushroom, onion, peppers and basil. This pizza was amazing! You can also order vegan pasta, too.

Vivero Wine Bar (Veg-Friendly Dining)

Vivero Wine Bar

Vivero is Puerto Vallarta’s newest wine bar and I’m friends with the owner! She is also a world traveller who has settled in Puerto Vallarta to open this stunning wine bar. Not only will you have the chance to sip delicious wine overlooking the city, but there are also vegan eats here, too.

Vivero Wine Bar

They have a full menu that’s available from 2pm until midnight on weekdays and 3pm until midnight on weekends. There’s a brunch menu earlier in the day on weekends, though I don’t believe there are any vegan offerings.

Vivero Wine Bar

On the full menu, vegan items are marked with a little green circle. There’s a vegan charcuterie board with vegan cheese, veggies, dips, nuts and seeds. The majority of the small plates are vegan, too. Choose from spicy potatoes, beet hummus, chips and a cream herb sauce, a quinoa dish, pumpkin seed dip, and many more. Share with your friends!

Vivero Wine Bar

Vivero is a fantastic spot to meet your friends for a drink and some light eats. It also doubles as a coworking space if you’re looking to get some work done. Bring your laptop and enjoy the fast Wi-Fi. Vivero is also a great place to watch the sunset from its rooftop patio.

Vegan Dining at Dreams Vallarta Bay Resort

Dreams Vallarta Bay Resort

While Dreams Vallarta Bay is definitely not a vegan hotel, Justin and I wanted to stay at an all-inclusive resort for the beautiful beach, pools, drinks and relaxation. I didn’t choose this resort for the food, though it is a five star resort with vegan options.

I primarily chose to stay at the Dreams Vallarta Bay because it was within walking distance of Centro and the Romantic Zone. It’s possible to leave the resort and try all of the amazing vegan restaurants in Puerto Vallarta. But, when you feel like simply relaxing by the pool with a beer or cocktail, it’s a wonderful place to do so.

Vegan Breakfast at Dreams Vallarta Bay

Vegan breakfast at the resort

We had breakfast each day at Dreams Vallarta Bay. I mostly ate hashbrowns/breakfast potatoes, fresh fruit, and bagels or bread with peanut butter. It’s not the most glamorous or fanciest vegan breakfast, but it’s similar to what I’d eat at home so I was perfectly fine with it!

Lunch at the Barefoot Grill

Falafel at Barefoot Grill

For lunch by the pool, you could order a falafel pita or a veggie burger, both are vegan. Please note that these veggie options are only available at the adjacent Secrets Vallarta Bay. You will need to go over to the Secrets Vallarta Bay side, which is accessible with a day pass (or by staying at Secrets Vallarta Bay).

Veggie burger at Barefoot Grill

If you want to pop over for the food, please walk through the main hotel entrance to the other side and not the beach entrance. At the beach, they regularly check room numbers and cards to make sure you are staying at Secrets Vallarta Bay or have a day pass. If you’re staying at Dreams Vallarta Bay, you are allowed to dine on the Secrets Vallarta Bay side, but it’s easier to avoid the beach security and having to explain that you’re only going over to the Secrets side for the vegan eats.

Dinner at Dreams Vallarta Bay

Capers Italian Restaurant

Some of the restaurants at Dreams Vallarta Bay were not very vegan-friendly, but there were two that stood out to me. We dined at both of them. Capers Italian Restaurant has bruschetta bread, minestrone soup, and a tomato sauce penne pasta. You can also request your bread to come with oil and vinegar instead of butter.

Capers Italian Restaurant

Tamarindo (the Mexican restaurant) has a starter salad with cucumber and beets, and the veggie fajitas. You’ll also receive nacho chips and guacamole/salsa to start.

Room Service at Dreams Vallarta Bay

If you decide to order room service, you can order variations of these dishes straight to your room. There are veggie fajitas, guacamole and chips, and tomato sauce pasta if you feel like dining in your room. The room service is 24 hours, so you might feel up for a late night snack!
