The Elora Christmas Market is a magical festive experience that you don't want to miss. Introduced in 2024, the Elora Christmas Market quickly jumped to the top of my list for the most enchanting Christmas markets in Ontario.
The captivating atmosphere and vibes are unmatched in any other town in Ontario this holiday season. First, Elora is already such a quaint and charming small town with historic buildings with intriguing alleyways and mews. Justin and I loved wandering all over Elora, admiring the lights and doing our holiday shopping.

Next, the village really goes all out when it comes to twinkling lights and holiday decor. Every building and its windows are outlined with Christmas lights.
And the Elora Christmas Market has decorations, lights, and little wooden huts that are reminiscent of European Christmas markets.

We've created a video showcasing our experiences at the Elora Christmas Market. So, was it worth attending or is it overhyped?
We show you some glimpses into this small, but festive market and highlight some of the best things to see and do.
What to Expect at the Elora Christmas Market

The Elora Christmas Market, also known as the Kat Florence Christmas Market, is one of the most spectacular Christmas markets in Ontario.
Located in Ontario's prettiest village, this holiday market reminds me the most of the ones in Germany out of all the markets in Canada.
It is a much smaller Christmas market than ones you may have visited in the past, but it's really cute and lovely. We went for a stroll down Frances Lane, checking out several wooden booths featuring locally made products and wares.

There are Christmas ornaments, bath and body products, candles, gifts for babies and children and more. It's a great place for holiday shopping or simply to treat yourself.
There are more than a few places for photo opportunities. I posed for our short video in Santa's sleigh, and the "Hallway of Lights" is super photogenic.
All in all, there are 150 Christmas trees and 88,000 twinkling lights at the Elora Christmas Market and throughout downtown Elora.
We walked to the end of the laneway to find a food truck, some warming stations and firepits surrounded by Muskoka chairs. It's a great place to gather with your friends and loved ones, especially when enjoying some festive food and drink.
Lost and Found Cafe

Unlike fully licensed Christmas markets or the ones in Europe, you aren't able to walk around with an alcoholic beverage in your hand. However, Justin and I enjoyed some beverages at the Lost and Found Cafe.
I ordered their mulled wine and Justin ordered their spiked hot apple cider drink. While I think that the gluhwein looks more photogenic, the hot apple cider drink was a little bit tastier. With that said, we really enjoyed both drinks!
You aren't able to take any of the alcoholic beverages outside of the coffee shop. If you order non-alcoholic drinks like coffee, lattes, hot chocolate and tea, you're more than welcome to take them along for a stroll.
Catch a Classic Holiday Movie

Did you know that Elora is home to Ontario's oldest cinema? The Gorge Cinema dates back to 1974 (but actually started as an opera house in the 1920s!) and it's still fully operational to this date. If you're in the mood for a Christmas movie, you're in luck.
The Gorge Cinema is showing classic Christmas movies for matinees at 2pm and on some weekend evenings, too.
While Justin and I didn't end up seeing a movie when we visited, we'd love to return to watch one. Grab your popcorn, get cozy, and be prepared for pure nostalgia.
How to Visit the Elora Christmas Market

The Elora Christmas Market is located on Francis Lane and the Elora Mews. It's really easy to find.
Once you walk into Elora, you'll either spot the sparkling alleyway of lights (the "Hallway of Lights" beside the Elora Mews on Mill Street West, or the wooden huts behind the Mrs. Greenway. Both laneways lead into the Elora Christmas Market.
It is free to visit the Elora Christmas Market. There are no fees associated with attending. Simply show up and enjoy.
Elora Christmas Market Dates & Hours
The dates and hours for the Elora Christmas Town are as follows:
- Opening Dates: Every Wednesday to Sunday from November 14th until Christmas
- Opening Times: From 12:00 to 8:00pm, we suggest viewing both during the day and at night
- Starlight Shopping: November 20th, 21st, 27th, 28th (shops stay open until 9pm!)
Shop Local in Elora

It's easy to shop local in Elora. Support local small businesses and get your holiday shopping done at the same time. Justin and I walked around Elora, popping into so many unique shops with rare finds.
A few of the stores that we really enjoyed include Mermaid in Elora, Honeychurch, Jammed Lovely and the Karger Gallery. Elora Bread Trading Co and the Elora Brewing Company are a couple of other favourites that we suggest you support.

Justin and I took advantage of the Starlight Shopping event in Elora. This happens on a few dates in November where the stores stay open later than usual. I suggest planning your trip to the Elora Christmas Market during the Starlight Shopping event.
Dining in Elora

For dinner, the two of us went to the Shepherd's Pub. They have a fantastic vegan menu with quite a few options. Off the plant-based menu, I got the Beyond Bánh Mì Burger which was definitely an elevated veggie burger with all of the yummy toppings.
If you're planning to stay for dinner during the Elora Christmas Market, I highly recommend making reservations in advance. We visited on a Thursday and didn't think we'd need reservations.
Wrong! All of the restaurants were totally booked up. Thankfully, the Shepherd's Pub was able to squeeze us in, but we had to wait a couple of hours for a table to become free.
Make a Weekend of It!

Why not stay the night and transform a day trip to Elora into a magical weekend?
Stay overnight in Elora at a fabulous hotel or vacation rental and continue to explore the following day. You can also take a day trip into the neighbouring town of Fergus for holiday shopping.
Stay at the Kat Florence Hotels or Etherington Suites to have your own little apartment in Elora. I also suggest using the handy map below to compare different properties to find the best one for you. Enter your travel dates for more precise info.
