Long Point Eco Adventures: Fun Activities and Luxury Glamping

Long Point Eco Adventures is a hub for amazing outdoor adventures and exploring nature. Surrounded by lush Carolinian forest and the unique habitat around Lake Erie, Long Point Eco Adventures has both land and water activities that will keep you coming back for more.

Justin and I have visited Long Point Eco Adventures twice now: once for the zipline and treetop trekking and once for the glamping. I am sure we’ll be back soon as there are so many other fun activities and dining experiences. Plus, it’s one of the best things to do in Turkey Point, a quaint beach town in Norfolk County.

Long Point Eco Adventures

About the Region

Though Long Point Eco Adventures is closer to Turkey Point than it is to Long Point, the entire region is environmentally significant. Turkey Point and Long Point are located on Lake Erie, and the region is known as an important bird migration site. More than 300 different species of migratory birds visit this peninsula, with hundreds of thousands of birds passing through each season.

Long Point Bay

Long Point Provincial Park and the Long Point National Wildlife Area is a sand dune and sand-spit formation in the Great Lakes region. It is internationally recognized as a significant wetland. This region received designation as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve because it contains many ecological and geological significant zones.

When you arrive at Long Point Eco Adventures, you’ll be immediately treated to gorgeous views overlooking the nearby wetlands. You can see marshes and lust forest all around with Lake Erie off in the distance. When you explore nature at Long Point Eco Adventures, you’ll be venturing through the biologically rich Carolinian forest.

Best Things to Do at Long Point Eco Adventures

Care to walk among the treetops and soar through the air? How about paddling through “Canada’s Amazon”, Big Creek? Long Point Eco Adventures has a wide array of activities and adventures for couples, families with kids, and groups of friends.

Zipline and Canopy Tour

Long Point Eco Adventures Zipline Tour

Love nature and a bit of a thrill? Long Point Eco Adventure’s zipline and canopy tour is perfect for you! Justin and I visited mid-week and totally lucked out – we were the only two in our group, so it was more like a private tour. On weekends, the zipline and treetop trekking tour at Long Point Eco Adventures usually sells out, so I recommend booking this experience well in advance.

In total, there are eight zip lines, two suspension bridges, and one 40-foot rappel at the end of the tour. Though this is a really exciting adventure, it’s a great introduction to anyone that’s never tried zip lining before and would like to give it a try. It’s recommended for anyone age 8 or over, unless you’re extremely scared of heights. We were zipping from platform to platform high up in the trees.

As we flew through the air between the platforms, we were given little challenges if we liked. At one point, our guides challenged us to swing on the zipine towards a tree and kick off the tree for an extra boost. My legs ended up being a little too short, but Justin’s long legs were made for this. He was able to kick off the tree with ease and spin around a couple of times, too.

I also loved spending so much time in the forest. The air was so crisp and everything around us was so green. We heard woodpeckers hammering away at the trees. Besides the chirping birds, we were the only ones out there. Gliding through the forest by zip line was exhilarating. All I could see were trees and the forest floor below.

Glamping at Long Point Eco Adventures

Glamping Turkey Point

Long Point Eco Adventures have a few different luxury glamping options: the Wilderness Suites, the Elite Pod, the Deluxe Pods, a cabin and a farmhouse. Justin and I spent the night in one of their wilderness suites, which are their original glamping tents. These are more luxurious than any other glamping tent I’ve ever experienced before.

We stayed in a King Suite (glamping suite #5), which had the best view of Long Point Bay. It has a luxurious king bed with a comfortable mattress and sheets. There’s even a heated blanket that can be controlled separately for each side of the bed. While the tents aren’t fully heated for the winter, there is a space heater that you can run if you’re cold at night. A fan is available for those hot days in the middle of the summertime.

There are many reading lights and lamps to illuminate the way at night. However, you’re still living inside a tent, so all of the windows have to be zipped open from the inside and outside of the tent. There are protective screens to keep the insects out. You can enter and exit the tent using the sliding glass doors at the front. There are also electrical outlets to plug in all of your gadgets. And there’s free WiFi included with the stay.

Rather than using public facilities, the wilderness suites come equipped with private bathrooms right in your own tent. You’ll find a toilet, a sink, towels, and even a small fridge. There is a private outdoor shower, too. Just unzip the doorway and you can access the rustic wooden shower.

Don’t feel like glamping? Would you rather stay at an accommodation in the area? Justin and I spent a long weekend in Turkey Point with a few of our friends, staying at this beautiful lakefront beach house. It’s right on Turkey Point Beach and it’s a comfortable and convenient spot for the whole family.

Stargazing at Long Point Eco Adventures (and Observatory Tour)

Campfire at Long Point Eco Adventures

Long Point Eco Adventures has both stargazing and observatory tours to learn more about the night sky. If you choose the “Dome Experience”, you’ll be able to look through their 16 inch telescope at the moon, planets, and stars.

When Justin and I glamped at Long Point Eco Adventures, we didn’t book a stargazing tour. But, it’s still a great place to view the night sky. We sat down by the campfire and made s’mores. Gazing up above, it’s amazing what you can see. There isn’t much light pollution here, so the stars are really visible.

Stargazing at Long Point Eco Adventures

While I would love to return for a observatory tour, it’s possible to look straight up at night and see so much from here. It’s just another perk of spending the night at Long Point Eco Adventures.

Big Creek Kayak Tour

Lake Erie and Big Creek are fabulous places for water activities. Hop on board the provided kayak for a four hour paddle around Big Creek, also known as Canada’s Amazon. You’ll drift past massive Sycamore and Black Walnut trees covered with Virginia Creeper vines. You might even spot some wildlife along the way, like beavers or deer.

Stand Up Paddleboarding Tour

Would you rather go standup paddleboarding? Long Point Eco Adventures has a two hour SUP tour on Lake Erie. Go for a relaxing and picturesque paddle. Never tried SUP before? Your guides will help you with all of the basics!

Mountain Biking Tours

For those who love cycling and mountain biking, you can take a mountain biking tour of Turkey Point. It includes the bike and it’s also a kid-friendly excursion. Take a two hour Turkey Point trail ride with your expert guide.

Axe Throwing at Long Point Eco Adventures

Ever wanted to be a lumberjack? This is a fun excursion at Long Point Eco Adventures for groups or families (kids must be at least 10 years old). Expert guides will show you how to throw an axe and you’ll also participate in skill-testing activities. This activity will surely create long lasting memories!

A Variety of Nature Tours

Long Point Eco Adventures has a lengthy list of tours, even more than the ones I’ve mentioned above. Go forest bathing, take a mushroom foraging tour, or embark on a foraging and culinary adventure. There’s a long list that changes throughout the seasons.

More Things to Do in Turkey Point

Our travel guide to Turkey Point has so many fantastic details to plan a trip to Turkey Point village. Here are a few more fun things to do in Turkey Point that make for the perfect weekend.

Turkey Point Beach

Things to do in Turkey Point - Turkey Point Beach

Turkey Point Beach is a 2km stretch of beach on Lake Erie, right in the village of Turkey Point. You can find a free parking spot off Cedar Drive on the edge of the beach. Arrive early in the summer as there are a limited amount of parking spaces.

Turkey Point Beach is a great choice for those with small children as the waters are calm and shallow. It’s a great beach for swimming and lounging in the sun. The sand is soft and great for building sandcastles. This is also a public beach so there’s no admission costs. Just show and enjoy your day at the beach in Turkey Point.

Turkey Point Provincial Park

Turkey Point Provincial Park

Turkey Point Provincial Park is best known as a wilderness destination for hiking, biking and camping. The campsites are open seasonally from May until the end of October. It’s an excellent day use park as well. There’s a network of mountain biking trails both within and adjacent to the park, as well as several hard surfaced and campground roads to go for a gentle bike ride.

We visited Turkey Point Provincial Park to go for a short fall hike. There are three hiking trails at Turkey Point Provincial Park: the Lookout Bluff Trail (2.2km, easy), Fin & Feather Trail (4km, moderate) and the Oak Savannah Trail (1km, easy). Justin and I hiked the shorter Lookout Bluff Trail, and it was a lovely forest trek.

Food and Drink at Long Point Eco Adventures (and Beyond)

Though we haven’t dined on site at Long Point Eco Adventures (yet!), there are a variety of food and drink offerings on their property and many more throughout the region. Venture down the road for more wineries and breweries, plus head into Turkey Point for even more dining options.

The Jetty Bar & Grill

Looking for where to dine in Turkey Point? I suggest checking out Sandbar on the Beach or The Jetty Bar & Grill. We went for lunch at the Jetty Bar & Grill and there’s truly something for everyone at this restaurant. Appetizers, burgers, bowls, wraps, salads, pizza…you name it.

The Jetty Bar & Grill

There are a few vegan items on the menu, including a Beyond Burger and some of their bowls. I ordered the “Shanghai Whatever” bowl, which had a variety of veggies, jasmine rice, and garlic ginger turmeric sauce.

Marshview Patio at Long Point Eco Adventures

The Marshview Patio is open right on site at Long Point Eco Adventures. It’s perfect if you’re feeling a little hungry after your tour or for breakfast after staying the night at the luxury glamping accommodations. On their main menu, every dish has a beer or wine pairing (even the appetizers). And there are a bunch of vegetarian options that I feel could easily be prepared as 100% plant-based dishes.

Hometown Brewing Company at Long Point Eco Adventures

Unfortunately, Hometown Brew Co was closed for the season when we visited Turkey Point recently. Hometown Brewing Company is only open during the summer season, so we’ll have to come back for this one. They have a few different brews, including their Pedal Pilsner, Southern Ale, Blueberry Saison, Organic Wild Wheat, Southern Light, Hazy Susan IPA, Coconut Porter, and Lime Pedal Pilsner.

Burning Kiln Winery

Burning Kiln Winery is located right across the street from Long Point Eco Adventures. Norfolk County and the Lake Erie region is an emerging wine region in Ontario. Burning Kiln Winery transformed and repurposed a former tobacco farm into beautiful vineyards. Stop by for a tasting flight, a wine tour, or wine and food pairings.

Blueberry Hill Estates Winery

Blueberry Hill Estates Winery

Blueberry Hill Estates Winery is another stunning winery just down the road from Long Point Eco Adventures. They grow their premium grapes right here in southwestern Ontario and create both grape and fruit wines.

Blueberry Hill Estates Winery

At Front Road Cellars at Blueberry Hill Estates, we sat down in their cute front room for a wine tasting. You can mix and match any of their wine and ciders for a tasting, and there’s also the option to pair your wine tasting with cheese or small bites.

Blueberry Hill Estates Winery

I sampled their pear cider, late harvest Riesling, and iced blueberry fruit wine. I was mostly a fan of the cider and the Riesling as the blueberry wine was a little too tart for my liking, but all were really delicious. Everyone at our table had their favourites. Another popular choice was the “what the foch” red wine.

Charlotteville Brewing Company

Charlotteville Brewing Company

Charlotteville Brewing Company is another fantastic brewery about a 10 minute drive from Long Point Eco Adventures. This estate brewery is located inside century-old barns on a family farm. They offer a great selection of fermented libations and organic seasonal fare. There’s also a spacious outdoor patio, open during the summer months.

Charlotteville Brewing Company

When we visited, they had a few unique and seasonal selections, including a pumpkin ale, a sour cherry and kaffir lime brew, and a stone fruit gose. I tried the Cherry Bomb (sour cherry beer), Life’s a Peach (stone fruit gose) and El Hefe (Hefeweisen) for my beer tasting. I probably enjoyed the hefeweisen the most (it is one of my overall favs) but I really enjoyed all three.

Charlotteville Brewing Company

There are a number of tables and seating around the bar on the first level, but I suggest going up to the loft if there are some seats available. There’s a couple of comfy couches up there, plus the loft is loaded with antiques and knick-knacks. It felt as though I was hanging out in someone’s rec room, sampling tasty brews.

More Things to Do in Southwestern Ontario

I’ve been to Ontario’s Southwest on numerous occasions and there are always new places to explore. I love that there’s a seemingly endless amount of things to see and do in southwestern Ontario. Here are some ideas to help you plan your adventures:

Sounds like an awesome adventure! Great photos :) I did something similar in Collingwood and while I enjoyed the ziplining, I wasn't so sure about balancing on the wooden beams! My balance is terrible and my husband kept jumping on the beams while he was behind me. Yes, if I end up doing this, I am going without him, lol!

This looks awesome! I haven't been ziplining since I was a kid, so I think as an adult I'd be pretty scared, haha.

(Also, your YouTube vids are looking awesome nowadays! I love the way you edit them).

Nice read. Especially knowing that Long point is a UNESCO site and the oldest bird observatory in North America. Never knew that North America had extensive zip lining.
