I visited Huntington Beach, also known as Surf City USA, in search of its beautiful beach, outdoor activities, wellness experiences and its delicious vegan meals. I wasn't disappointed!
If you're planning a trip to the city, here are the best things to do in Huntington Beach that will easily fill a few days, making a really awesome travel itinerary. Whether you're a local to the city or you're visiting, these top vegan-friendly and vegan restaurants in Huntington Beach will keep you coming back time and time again.

Best Vegan Restaurants in Huntington Beach: Good Vibes
Having tried several vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Huntington Beach, Good Vibes was my favorite of the bunch. Formerly called Bodhi Tree Vegan Cafe, it's a plant-based kitchen and juice bar in downtown Huntington Beach. They focus on local and seasonal ingredients, and their chef makes creative and tantalizing dishes with over 20 years of experience in the industry. You can look forward to delicious food and great service here.

Good Vibes has warm and welcoming vibes with a bright and beachy decor, as well as a small section of vegan and handmade products for sale. I ordered an appetizer and a main course, not knowing that the portion sizes are gigantic! It's no problem at all as I happily enjoyed my appetizer as a midnight snack back at my hotel. You can look forward to the good portions here, that's for sure.

I started with the chick'n fingers, which was a plate of chicken made from soy protein, fries, slaw and peppercorn aioli. I chose the spicy dumpling ramen as my main, a rich and flavorful bowl with steamed dumplings, bok choy, peanut sauce, chili oil, garlic and ginger in a soothing broth. My server also brought out a small bowl of lentil soup to try as a sample before my meal arrived, which was a nice touch. I wish that I lived closer to Huntington Beach so I could dine here all the time.
Jan's Health Bar
Jan's Health Bar is a local favorite in Huntington Beach since it opened in 1972. Located in downtown Huntington Beach, Jan's Health Bar offers made-to-order sandwiches, soups, salads, freshly squeezed juices and smoothies. They only use the freshest ingredients, making Jan's a go-to breakfast and lunch spot for over 40 years.
While I was tempted by many dishes on the menu, I selected the delicious Tsunami Bowl (rice noodles, mixed greens, shredded carrots, green onions, cilantro, mint, edamame, peanuts and cucumbers tossed with a peanut sauce) and the pretty pink Pure Dragon smoothie (pitaya, pineapple, banana and 100% fresh apple juice). It's the perfect place to stop for lunch.
While Jan's Health Bar is not 100% vegan or vegetarian, they make it really easy for vegans, vegetarians, and those following a gluten-free diet to order. There's a little "V" next to the vegan options (and "VG" for vegetarian, "GF" for gluten-free, and "RGF" to request gluten-free). Jan's Health Bar has five locations in Orange County in total, so definitely stop when you're looking for the best vegan restaurants in Huntington Beach.
Vegan Restaurants in Huntington Beach: Lemonade

Lemonade is a local chain of restaurants that describes itself as a modern cafeteria serving California-inspired fare. Seasonal vegetables are showcased in a variety of creative and tasty ways, and you'll surely eat a rainbow of food here. Essentially, you choose your main dish and pair it with your choice of side salads at this fast-casual restaurant.

Don't forget to add one of their refreshing and unique lemonades. I chose a blood orange lemonade at Lemonade Restaurant. Most of the salads are naturally vegan, while there are a few with meat added. There's no shortage of vegan and vegetarian food here.
I selected the avocado toast as my main. My sides were the buckwheat soba & kimchi and the snap pea edamame. The meals are uplifting and invigorating. Stopping for lunch here will give you the energy you need for the rest of your afternoon.
Green Tomato Grill

Green Tomato Grill is a healthy fast food restaurant in Huntington Beach, serving affordable and sustainable food to Orange County. The menu focuses on fresh ingredients and everything is made to order. Therefore, it's easy to accommodate all sorts of allergies, dietary preferences and dietary restrictions, such as gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan dishes.
Any menu item with a V next to it is vegan. Most of their bowls can be made vegan, they have a Beyond burger on the menu, and there are a variety of soups and sides. My teriyaki tofu and rice bowl was really yummy and tasted so fresh. It tastes much better than what you'd expect healthy food to taste like!
Watertable

Watertable is located inside the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach, though I highly recommend dining here for breakfast even if you aren't staying at the hotel. It's a sophisticated venue in both design and cuisine, winning Open Table's Diner's Choice Award for the Top 100 Best Restaurants in the United States.

Watertable completely lives up to its accolades, and it's a very vegan-friendly restaurant in Huntington Beach. As someone who has followed a vegan diet for a long time, having a quality breakfast can often be the most difficult to find. You won't have any issues at Watertable, and the quality of the food is top notch.
The restaurant offers JUST Egg products and can swap out Just EGG for many dishes that include actual eggs, like the Smith Fresh Omelet. I decided to try their avocado toast and breakfast potatoes, and they were super yummy. If you love coffee, you need to try Pete's Cup Cappuccino. It's naturally vegan (made with oat milk) and the top of the cappuccino is finished like a creme brulee. It was so unique and so good!
Pacific Hideaway

Pacific Hideaway is tucked inside the Kimpton Shorebreak Resort where I was staying, but it's open to all members of the public. It's described as "part sophisticated SoCal restaurant, part international beach shack", so it's a comfortable place to meet your friends for food and cocktails with an unpretentious design and vibe.
While Pacific Hideaway doesn't have any vegan dishes marked as such on their menu, there are a few ones labelled vegetarian that can be easily modified. Please let your server know that you are vegan, and they'll take care of you. I ordered the Thai Tofu Wrap made vegan without the aioli and it was quite good. You can also try the guacamole and the turmeric roasted cauliflower.
Banzai Bowls
Acai bowls are all the rage in Huntington Beach. They're nutritious and delicious, created from the antioxidant-rich Brazilian acai berry. I went for breakfast at Banzai Bowls where you can order an acai bowl, pitaya bowl or fruit smoothie. The first Banzai Bowls location opened in 2008 in Costa Mesa, well before their popularity swept the nation (they now have 7 locations and counting!).
Most of their acai bowls and pitaya bowls are naturally vegan, though you can request to remove the honey from some bowls. They're topped with granola and fresh fruit, making for a satisfying treat after surfing or biking. While this is one of the top choices for acai bowls, you can find more around town at Blue Bowl, Pur Bowl, Jan's Health Bar, Acai Republic, Pacific Hideaway and Aosa Coffee.
Best Vegan Restaurants in Huntington Beach: Loving Hut
Loving Hut is an international chain of vegan restaurants inspired by Supreme Master Ching Hai, an advocate for veganism. It's one of the few 100% vegan restaurants in Huntington Beach, and the food is pretty affordable, too. There are many mock meat dishes, pad Thai, fish tacos, vegan curries, spring rolls and more.
Phans 55
Phans55 is a Vietnamese street food restaurant inside the food hall at Pacific City Mall. They offer mostly non-vegan options, but also many vegan and vegetarian dishes made with tofu. Be sure to ask for no fish sauce and request that the dishes be made vegan. Choose from pho, banh mi, spring rolls, noodle or rice bowls.
Vegan Restaurants in Huntington Beach: Mitasie 3
Mitasie 3 is one of the best vegan restaurants in Huntington Beach and fully vegan since 2018. This plant-based restaurant in Huntington Beach serves up tasty Asian cuisine using vegetables and mock meats. Try their egg rolls, orange chicken, kung pao chicken, garlic noodle, salt and pepper crispy tofu and more. Next time, I'm definitely dining here as I didn't get the chance on my first time in Huntington Beach.
Vegan-Friendly Brewery: Green Cheek Beer Company

Green Cheek Beer Company opened its third and newest location in Huntington Beach. This is an independent brewery that's owned and operated by two friends who love beer and the craft beer community. You can also find their beer exclusively at their locations, though they also offer pints from other local craft breweries, too.

In addition to their refreshing and tasty beer, there are quite a few vegan options on the menu at their Sunset Beach location. Under the "Plants" heading on the menu, you'll find a vegan California burger, a vegan chorizo sandwich, and a vegan BBQ burger. While I only ordered a beer flight on my visit, I'd love to return to try out one of these yummy sounding plant-based options.
Tama Sushi Ramen and Vegan
Tama Sushi is a Japanese restaurant serving plant-based ramen and sushi. They divide the menu up into two categories, the vegan menu and the non-vegan menu. Both sections of the menu have around the same amount of items, so as you can imagine, their vegan offerings are plentiful. You'll find vegan appetizers, sushi rolls, ramen, noodles, bowls and desserts. In short, there's amazing vegan food here.
Vegan Restaurants in Huntington Beach: Vegan Galaxy
Previously called Vegan Nirvana, Vegan Galaxy is a casual restaurant with a warm and inviting atmosphere. Everything on the menu is vegan. Order sandwiches, wraps, salads, sharables, mock meats, desserts and more. It's a highly rated vegan restaurant in Huntington Beach, so you'll need to add this one to your list. This is one of the best vegetarian restaurants in HB.
Vegan Restaurants in Huntington Beach: VegiLicious
VegiLicious describes itself as "healthy and delicious modern Japanese cuisine", and they aim to make you and the planet happy and healthy. They make everything from scratch using all organic ingredients. Try their crispy chicken tenders, kobe BBQ bowl, spicy miso ramen, noodle soups and more. You'll find the best healthy vegan food at this organic restaurant.
Vegan Donuts in Huntington Beach: The Donuttery

The Donuttery is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so you can fulfill your donut cravings anytime! Not only that, but they have a massive selection of vegan doughnuts. There are so many donuts that you'll probably have a tough time choosing which flavor to try. It took me ages to choose!

Furthermore, the Donuttery carries donuts for other dietary restrictions and preferences, like gluten-free donuts and keto donuts. The vegan section of donuts takes up at least a couple of shelves in the glass display unit, as well as two entire wheelie carts of donuts behind the cash. These donuts also taste fantastic and won't have you missing the eggs that you'll typically find in your yeast doughnut.
Duck Donuts
While I only had time to visit one donut shop on my trip to Huntington Beach, Duck Donuts also serves vegan donuts as well. They specialize in made-to-order doughnuts that you can customize. Out of the entire menu, there are only a few that can't be made vegan, so you'll be able to go wild with the customizations.
Vegan Chocolate in Huntington Beach: Bella Sophia Chocolates
Bella Sophia Chocolates is a luxury hand painted chocolate shop inside Pacific City Mall in Huntington Beach. This award-winning chocolatier makes everything by hand in small batches. When available, they use organic ingredients, and their products are sourced from local and regional farmers for the freshest and highest quality bonbons.

Many of their beautiful chocolates are vegan, and some of them have a little "V" on the label in the glass display case. If you're wondering which ones are vegan, just ask and the owners will let you know. While these chocolates come with a higher price tag than your average candy, the designs and colors are dazzling. The chocolates will melt in your mouth and they're worth every penny!
Vegan-Friendly Coffee Shop: 602 Coffee House

602 Coffee House is a cozy little coffee shop right across from the main beach and Huntington Beach Pier. They're known for their coffee and their acai bowls. While I only tried an iced Americano (delish!), you can also try their acai bowls or avocado toast for a yummy vegan breakfast or lunch option.
Vegan-Friendly Cafe: Milk & Honey

Milk & Honey is a cute coffee shop in downtown Huntington Beach with several vegan options on the menu. First, there are a variety of plant-based milks for your coffee and tea. There are several smoothies that can easily be prepared vegan, if they aren't already naturally vegan to begin with.

In terms of food and small bites, Milk & Honey offers a vegan egg bagel, avocado toast (can be modified to be vegan), as well as vegan muffins, cookies and banana bread. Stop by Milk & Honey for your daily dose of caffeine or perhaps for breakfast, too.
Able Coffee Roasters
Able Coffee Roasters is a coffee shop in Huntington Beach that employs individuals with disabilities, providing those with autism and other special needs with paying jobs. We were warmly greeted by two friendly employees upon our arrival, and there's also a little corner of merchandise for the shop, too.

Able Coffee Roasters has a selection of coffee, tea and espresso drinks, as well as some signature favorites. I chose the Sensory Latte (espresso, brown sugar and cinnamon). There are a few toasts on display that are vegan: crunchy peanut butter, harmony hummus and able avo.
Where to Stay in Huntington Beach, California
Travelling to Huntington Beach? There are so many fun hotels right near the main beach and the Huntington Beach Pier that are the perfect home base during your stay. I spent three nights at the Kimpton Shorebreak Hotel, a hip hotel with the best location. In fact, it's a whole destination in itself with fun activities right at the accommodation itself.

The casual yet stylish beach vibes of my hotel room were a warm welcome to Southern California. Imagery of waves, surfers and sunsets compliment the earthy tones and shades of blue throughout the suite. Each room comes with its own record player and record (a larger library is available by the front desk), and my balcony offered brilliant views of beach.

There's always something happening at this beach-chic hotel. Hang out in the lobby for a complimentary Happy Hour every day between 5:00 and 6:00pm (free beer and wine!). Take one of the complimentary cruiser bikes out for a spin. Play a game of foosball or ping pong. Attend a free yoga class every Sunday morning (you can use the yoga mat in your room).
