Justin and I stayed at Salzburg Place to Stay, a Salzburg luxury apartment in the pedestrian area of the historic old town. While we rented this apartment for three nights, we could have easily stayed much longer. We really felt like we were returning to our home every night after our daily adventures.

APARTMENT #4

Welcome to Salzburg Place to Stay, a 500-year old historic home nestled on a quiet street in Salzburg’s old town. Beyond these massive wooden doors, there’s a quiet courtyard with stairs leading up to the apartment.

Our apartment was on the third floor (otherwise known as the fourth floor in Europe). One set of stairs was in the courtyard, and there were two more flights of stairs indoors. Justin carried our bags up the stairs without any difficulty. If you have mobility issues, be sure to request the apartment on the first floor.

Although I’m sure all of the apartments have lovely views, I think that our apartment #4 likely had the best one. If you are able-bodied, I’d request our apartment. Plus, I’m going to give you the inside scoop and show you around!

OUR HOME IN SALZBURG

This Salzburg luxury apartment is beautifully designed in neutral colours with artful concepts showcasing themes of the city. On the walls, there are images depicting sheet music as Salzburg has deep ties to Mozart. There are also drawings of composers and musicians hanging up on the walls.

In the bedroom, there’s a world map up on display. I always love seeing maps as decorations as this truly reminds me of our apartment at home. I often think about the travellers who have stayed here before us, and how they come from all over the world.

THE KITCHEN

In the kitchen, we had everything we needed to prepare a meal, make coffee, and store food. Although we never ended up cooking for ourselves, there are an adequate amount of pots, pans, dishes, and cutlery. There’s a stove top, a small oven, a fridge, a kettle, and two coffee makers – one for regular drip coffee and one for Nespresso.

There are basic condiments and even some rich coffee grounds so I could make my own pot of coffee in the morning.

Our favourite part of the kitchen area was the view from the window. As we were up on the top floor, we could see everything. We swung the antique windows fully open to allow a refreshing breeze to circulate around the apartment.

We soaked up a gorgeous view of the Salzburg Cathedral and dome right from our own place. We were surrounded by old buildings in such a historic area of the city. Throughout the day, we heard the sounds of bells from several churches, each with their own tune.

THE GARDEN

Behind the house, there’s a tranquil garden with greenery and flowers growing everywhere. Steps lead up to a small seating area. One day, we enjoyed our lunch on the patio. It is such a quiet and peaceful place in the middle of a touristy town.

Directly behind the house and up some stairs, there is a beer garden. You’d never know there was a beer garden there as you can’t hear any noise from it. It’s wonderful to have a cool spot like this so close to the apartment. And then, above the beer garden, you’ll find one of the best attractions in Salzburg –  the Hohensalzburg Fortress.

It’s quite amazing that we had an exceptional view of gardens, a beer garden, and a castle, all directly behind the apartment!

LOCATION

This Salzburg luxury apartment by Salzburg Place to Stay is right in the pedestrian area of historic old town. It’s on the cobblestone street called Herrengasse, on the edge of old town beneath the escarpment. You’re in a quieter section away from the tourists, but you’re still right in the middle of the action. It’s the perfect place.

We walked from the apartment to the main streets within moments. The apartment is right between the cathedral and the fortress, so you can easily stroll over to both in minutes. From the apartment to the river, it’s about a five minute walk.

There are restaurants, coffee shops, shops, and boutiques right around the corner. You can even walk to Mirabell gardens within about ten minutes.

STAFF

We met with the owner, Gabi upon our arrival. She made us feel right at home immediately, showing us around the apartment. We were able to easily contact her if we had any questions or concerns. Gabi even arranged for a taxi to pick us up right from the apartment upon our departure.

If you're staying in a European city for more than a couple of nights, renting an apartment is definitely the best way to go. It's just a more pleasant atmosphere plus you save a bit by eating breakfast at home each morning.
