Welcome to Orangerie, a lovely vacation rental in Cesky Krumlov.
Cesky Krumlov is a captivating place that entertains swarms of day trippers. While there’s nothing wrong with coming down from Prague for the day to witness this charming village, it’s much better to stay overnight.
We enjoyed Cesky Krumlov the most in the early morning after we stayed overnight. Walking around the town, we had it entirely to ourselves.
We watched the city wake up. Locals had minor repairs done to buildings before the tourists arrived. People enjoyed a morning stroll down the cobblestone streets. We walked down narrow alleys, across empty piazzas, and admired river views eclipsed by churches and the castle tower.
The castle grounds and gardens were deserted in the early morning hours. The day before, we battled pushy tourists and narrowly missing injury by swinging selfie sticks.
Don’t get me wrong, if visiting Cesky Krumlov for the day is your only option, come to this brilliant little town. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is not to be missed. However, we wouldn’t have appreciated the quiet moments without staying the night. Now that I’ve convinced you, let me show you where to stay in Cesky Krumlov.
Orangerie is right in the medieval old town, directly behind this pink wall. Even when the city is at its busiest and most chaotic, you’d never know once you were on the property of Orangerie. It’s a quiet and peaceful retreat inside a touristy town.
Orangerie is a 16th century building, renovated in 2013. The building was home to one of the first orangeries on the continent. The accommodation grounds are very inviting and very green. There are many trees and plants growing everywhere.
Upon entering Orangerie, we were greeted by a warm and friendly staff member who showed us our room.
OUR ROOM: JAFFA
The rooms are named after citrus fruits, and we stayed in the Jaffa room. Jaffa is on the main floor of the home, so it’s great for anyone with reduced mobility. The apartment had everything we needed, and it truly felt like home.
In the main room, there’s a king-sized bed, a couch, a flat screen TV, and a kitchen table. The sofa bed sleeps an additional two people if you’re traveling with a group of four, and you can request a baby bed if needed. You can look out the window for views of the garden.
KITCHEN & BATHROOM
When you enter the vacation rental, you’ll come upon the large kitchen first. It has everything you need to cook a delicious meal and store your ingredients. There’s a fridge, stove, sink, coffee pot, kettle, dishes, pots, and utensils. While we didn’t end up using the kitchen for our one-night stay, having a kitchen certainly comes in handy.
The bathroom has a shower/bathtub combination. There are towels and toiletries in the bathroom for you to use.
The apartment also has free Wi-Fi so you can stay connected.
THE BEST LOCATION
From Orangerie, we walked all over town as it was in the most central location. Orangerie is just off the main street in town, Latran. It is a two minute walk to the castle.
Even though it’s right in the middle of a pedestrianized town, there’s still a place to park your car if you’re traveling with one.
It really doesn’t get any better than this!
We were warmly greeted when we arrived, and welcomed again by the manager, Eszter. Although we had a limited amount of time and didn’t take advantage of this, Eszter also works as a private tour guide. If you arrange it with Orangerie, Eszter can show you all over the city and tell you about its rich history.
We were also delighted to receive an email after our booking with a list of things to do and places to see. It’s really awesome that this level of care is shown for their guests to ensure that they enjoy their time in Cesky Krumlov. It’s these personal touches that make deciding where to stay in Cesky Krumlov so much easier.
From the relaxing and comfortable room to the superb location, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Orangerie and we’d love to stay here again. Cesky Krumlov is such a historic and unique village that I’d love to experience more than once, and I’d definitely return to Orangerie.
