The Airbnb of Luggage Storage: This Company Helps You Find Where To Store Luggage While Traveling

Bagsort: The Airbnb of Luggage Storage

Luggage storage is a common dilemma. Let’s say that you’re flying into a country super early, long before you can check in at your accommodation. Or perhaps you have a late flight and you’re not sure where to store luggage in those hours between checking out of your hotel and heading to the airport. If you’re staying at a hotel, you can often leave your bags with the staff at the front desk. But, what if you’re staying at an Airbnb or lodging that doesn’t have any staff members on site?

Enter Bagsort. They’re reinventing the short term luggage storage industry by allowing you to leave your bags at one of many locations nearest you. You won’t have to go searching for bag storage inside train stations or airports any longer. Bagsort uses the sharing economy concept (think Airbnb or bike sharing systems) to provide you access to an extensive network of luggage storage locations near you.

How Does Bagsort Luggage Storage Work?

Bagsort: The Airbnb of Luggage Storage

Let’s say that I’m visiting Quebec City or Montreal and my flight is really early in the morning. I arrive in the city by 9 or 10 in the morning, and my Airbnb check-in time isn’t until 3:00 pm. What do I do with my bags? Well, I could use a luggage locker at the airport, but this would mean returning to the airport before heading to my Airbnb a few hours later, which is a total waste of time and money. I could find a bus station or a train station that has luggage storage, but it might not be anywhere near my accommodation. I start my trip off with annoyed with a total headache over the whole matter.

With Bagsort, they have luggage storage in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City and Vancouver, with Los Angeles coming soon (and more to come, too!). Enter the location of your accommodation into the search bar and you’ll find numerous luggage storage spots. Their website is mobile-friendly, so there’s no need to download any additional apps. Choose a location and you’ll receive instant instructions on how to get there.

These locations are local partner businesses that have extra space for bag storage, such as dry cleaners, convenience stores, spas, luggage lockers, restaurants, coffee shops, hotels, gift shops, and more. You do need to book your luggage storage through the website, but there’s free cancellation if you change your mind. You don’t need to book your reservation far in advance – you can do it moments before you arrive, too.

Other Practical Uses for Luggage Storage With Bagsort

Where to store luggage while traveling

You don’t have to use Bagsort only while you’re traveling. Let’s say that you’re spending a day working at various coffee shops in Toronto, as I commonly do. I’ll have a large backpack with my laptop, its charger, and perhaps a notebook. Then, I might have an event later that evening in the city or I’ll meet some friends for dinner.

I usually end up lugging around my large backpack wherever I go, which can be annoying in social situations (especially if you’re attending a networking event or a more formal situation). I could easily store my backpack at a Bagsort location for a few hours and pick it up when I’m finished. That way, I won’t have to go home to drop things off or lug them all over the place with me.

You might also have an event to attend where you can’t bring bulky bags or backpacks inside with you. This is another situation where Bagsort is super handy and practical. Drop your bags off near your event at a secure location for a few hours and pick them up when you’re done.

How Much Does Bagsort Cost?

Bagsort is an inexpensive way to store your luggage. It costs $5.95 per bag per day (every 24 hours), plus a one time handling fee of $3.00. All prices are in Canadian dollars.

What About Insurance for Loss or Damage?

Single-use seals with a unique number are attached to every bag. Then, your bags are stored in a locked space without any access by the public. All luggage is insured against damage, loss, or theft up to $3000 per booking. You won’t need to worry about your things when you’re out and about, and it’s safer than any sketchy luggage lockers at unfamiliar train stations or bus stations.

This is so cool, I hope they expand to Europe as well. In my experience, most Airbnbs will let you keep your luggage there until you need to head to the airport, and they'll let you check in early as well. But there's never a guarantee so an option like this would be really great to have.
