Put-in-Bay Golf Cart Rentals: How to See Put-in-Bay by Golf Cart

The best choice for transportation around Put-in-Bay is by golf cart, and I’m going to show you the best Put-in-Bay golf cart rentals. As there aren’t many cars on the island (and only residents tend to have cars there), the main way of getting around is either by foot or by golf cart.

To have the full Put in Bay experience, I suggest riding around in a golf cart with your friends. There aren’t any car rentals on the island, but there are plenty of golf cart rental agencies.

Put in Bay Golf Cart

As we stayed at the Bayshore Resort, we rented a golf cart directly through our hotel. This was the easiest solution for us as we didn’t need to travel far to pick up the golf cart, and we were able to pay for the rental right at our accommodation.

We rented a golf cart for the day in order to see all of the main Put-in-Bay attractions, especially those that were a distance away from the main downtown street and our hotel. I drove around in the cart with Justin and my best friend, Shannon.

Like I mentioned above, our Put-in-Bay golf cart rental came directly from our hotel, Bayshore Resort. If you aren’t staying at this property, you can always check to see if your hotel offers golf cart rentals.

They offer golf cart rentals by the day, by the hour, and overnight. New at Bayshore Resort, they are renting out Moke vehicles that are sweet and stylish, going up to 40mph! Here are some other places where you can rent golf carts in PIB.

E’s Put-in-Bay Golf Carts

If you’re taking the Miller Ferry to the island, this is a great option for those looking for Put-in-Bay golf cart rentals for the duration of their trip. Pick up your golf cart from the ferry dock and return it at the end of your stay. E’s Put-in-Bay Golf Carts is located on the southern end of the island.

AB Cart Rental

AB Cart Rental is an excellent option if you’re looking to rent a golf cart in downtown Put in Bay. They’re located right across from the Bus Depot. It’s easy to reserve your golf cart in advance through their website from April to November.

Put-in-Bay Golf Cart Depot

Put-in-Bay Golf Cart Depot is a tried and trusted choice for Put in Bay golf cart rentals. They’ve been serving visitors for more than a decade, and they have the newest fleet on the island. The Golf Cart Depot is also situated in downtown PIB and you can reserve it ahead of time online

Put-in-Bay Golf Cart Rentals: Where to Go

Golf Cart Views

Okay, so you’ve picked up your Put-in-Bay golf cart rental and you’re all set to go. Now, where exactly do you go? While your golf cart only travels at about 25 mph, South Bass Island isn’t really all that big so it won’t take long to get around.

Here’s exactly where we drove our golf cart and where we recommend going. Start your trip up on Delaware Avenue, the main street of downtown Put-in-Bay. Then, drive beyond the downtown core to some other main attractions in PIB.

Delaware Avenue

Mojito Bay

We first drove from our hotel down the main street with most of the restaurants and bars, Delaware Ave. We highly recommend stopping at the huge tiki bar in the evening, Mojito Bay. There’s live music at night, and they make the most delicious slushy drinks.

Delaware Avenue is also right next to the harbor. We enjoyed stopping to walk along the boardwalk, admiring the boats and the view of Lake Erie.

Put in Bay even has a drive-thru beer store! There are also snacks and other treats, accessible by foot and vehicle.

Perry’s Cave

Perry's Cave

Enjoy the island from a new perspective from beneath the surface. There are underground cave tours operating every hour at Perry’s Cave.

Take a guided tour of the cave for $12.00 per person (at the time this article was written). It was pretty cool down there – a crisp 52 degrees – a natural air conditioner on a hot day.

We had to be careful not to touch the ceiling as this would disrupt the stalagmite formations. This wasn’t a problem for me, but Justin is very tall so he had to crouch a lot.

Perry’s Cave is one large cavern with many rocks that looked like various shapes (labeled as what they look like, such as “lion” or “alligator”). Sadly, when the cave was first discovered by the original owner, he chopped off many stalagmites and stalactites in an attempt to sell them.

As it turns out, no one wanted to buy them. Nowadays, many stumps line the cavern floor. Stalagmites and stalactites grow at a rate of an inch every 100 years. Someday, the cave will be restored to its former glory.

Perry’s Cave is also home to a mini golf course, a butterfly house, gemstone mining, an antique car museum, and other attractions for kids. If you’re taking advantage of Put-in-Bay golf cart rentals, be sure to drive out to Perry’s Cave.

South Bass Island State Park

South Bass Island State Park

South of Put in Bay Village, we discovered South Bass Island State Park. It’s a 33-acre park offering gorgeous views of Lake Erie.

We admired a small cliff lined with trees from a rocky beach. Although it wasn’t the kind of beach where I’d like to swim, it was nice to stick our feet in the water on a hot day. This is also where one of the campgrounds is situated.

South Bass Island Lighthouse

A short distance away, we came across the South Bass Island Lighthouse. We walked around the property of this historic home that had a pretty garden and a great view of the lake.

It is currently owned by Ohio State University and the lighthouse is on the National Register of Historic Places. While you can’t go inside the lighthouse, the property is quite lovely and the view is beautiful.

Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial

Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial

Driving back north into Put in Bay and past our hotel, we arrived at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial. It is the third tallest monument in America and visitors are able to travel up to the top of the tower for an amazing 360 degree view of the entire island.

We paid our entrance fee ($10 per person) and rode the elevator up to the top. There are park rangers around and you could ask them any questions about the memorial tower or Put-in-Bay. They are a wealth of knowledge and incredibly friendly.

There’s an amazing view of the whole island from up at the top. We walked around the entire tower for a 360 degree view of Put-in-Bay, Lake Erie, and the surrounding islands. There are maps placed out in each corner describing the places you could see from each vantage point.

As you can see, there’s so much to see when you experience Put-in-Bay golf cart rentals. I highly recommend renting a golf cart in PIB so you can see the whole island. Next, be sure to go kayaking in Put-in-Bay so you can witness South Bass Island from the water and venture over to Gibraltar Island.
