Bayshore Resort in Put-in-Bay, Ohio, is a relaxed and laidback place to stay on South Bass Island. While Put in Bay is a great destination for families, couples, and friends, it can have a party vibe at times. With many accommodation choices in Put in Bay, Bayshore Resort feels a little more “grown-up” than others in town.
The key is making sure that the property you choose is aligned with the kind of trip you have in mind. Looking for a low-cost choice? There are several campgrounds on the island. How about a swim up bar? There are hotels catered to partying college students, as well as bachelor/bachelorette parties.

If you’re looking to retreat to a peaceful accommodation away from the crowds, Put-in-Bay’s Bayshore Resort should be on your radar. I’ve stayed there twice in the past and I’m convinced that it’s one of the best places to stay in Put in Bay.
Bayshore Resort Review: The Location
Bayshore Resort in Put-in-Bay might be farther away from the southern ferry dock, but it’s close to many local attractions. You can walk from the hotel to the downtown village with most of the restaurants, pubs, and bars.
It’s also close to Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial, which is one tourist site that you’re going to want to visit. We also rode golf carts from the hotel all over the island. Put in Bay isn’t that big of a place, and you can easily ride your golf cart everywhere that you need to go.
Tip: If you’re going to be drinking, you can’t drive your golf cart. The golf carts in Put in Bay are fully licensed. If you decide to drink, don’t drive – or you can get pulled over my the cops and get a DUI.
Yes, this will go on your permanent driving record! So, it’s a good idea to have a hotel within walking distance of most bars if you’re going to drink (and you don’t have a designated driver).
Review of Bayshore Resort in Put-in-Bay: The Property
Bayshore Resort in Put-in-Bay features a private outdoor swimming pool and huge hot tub. The swimming facilities are the main highlight of the hotel.
If you stay in Put in Bay (or even visit for the day), every hotel has an outdoor pool that’s open to the public. Every hotel except Bayshore Resort, that is.
The pool at this hotel is only open to its guests, meaning that the pool and hot tub will never be jam packed with tourists. Compared to many other pools on the island, this one was a peaceful retreat away from the crowds.
There are tons of deck loungers to soak up the sunshine, and there’s a serene view of the lake just beyond the property. To top it all off, Bayshore Resort Put in Bay has its own tropical tiki bar where you can buy drinks to enjoy by the pool.
Please note that Bayshore Resort does not allow its guests to bring in outside alcohol. This hotel caters to families and couples, and it’s a quieter retreat on the island. You can order drinks at the tiki bar, or drink at the numerous bars and restaurants in Put-in-Bay.
Bayshore Resort: Our Room
We booked a double queen suite at the Bayshore Resort. As we traveled with our friends, Justin and I originally wanted to book a suite that slept up to six people. Unfortunately, it was all booked up even months in advance.
Be sure to reserve your room here early, especially if you’re planning to visit during the popular Christmas in July event in Put-in-Bay. We traveled there a week before Christmas in July and right in the middle of the week. Even still, Bayshore Resort is very popular as it is the nicest hotel on the island.
Though the hotel’s decor looks a little outdated, it had all the amenities that we needed for our stay. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was spacious with a large shower.
One of the best features of the hotel, besides the pool, is that every room has its own private balcony. Each room faces the back of the property overlooking the pool.
Every balcony is covered with a screen so you don’t have to deal with bugs or mosquitoes. We loved the view of the swimming pool, Lake Erie, and the monument tower in the distance.
Golf Cart Rentals On Site
A really convenient amenity is the fact that you can rent your golf cart directly from the hotel. You can decide on the day if you’d like to rent one, and you can borrow a golf cart for a half day or a full day.
We drove our golf cart all over town: to Perry’s Cave, the South Bass Island State Park, and even to go kayaking. Then, at the end of the day, leave it at the front of the hotel and you’re already at your home for the night.
We really enjoyed our stay at Bayshore Resort, so much that I’ve actually stayed here on two occasions. It’s a great place to stay if you’re traveling with your family, friends, or as a couple.
