Visiting the Koblenz Christmas Market

The Koblenz Christmas Market takes place this year from November 21st to January 4th, 2026. I've listed all the important dates and times in the block below.

Please note that the Christmas markets at Jesuitenplatz and Liebfrauenkirche end on December 22nd.

For the remaining squares after December 22nd, the retail vendors are closed. Bars, snack and food vendors remain open until January 4th, but close between December 24th and 26th and on January 1st.

So, the Koblenz Christmas markets mostly seem to shut down after December 22nd, but some of the food and drink vendors continue to serve through to the New Year.

Koblenz has seven Christmas market areas dotted throughout the city. As Koblenz is a very walkable destination, it's easy to walk between the markets.

It's also possible to visit all of the Christmas markets in Koblenz in one day. Whether you decide to spend the night here or visit Koblenz on a day trip, both options are an excellent idea.

If it's possible, I recommend checking out the markets during the day and once the sun goes down. It's a totally different vibe in daytime and nighttime.

While I love viewing the architecture and buildings during the day, nothing beats witnessing the twinkling lights and stunning holiday decorations lit up at night.

I'm going to list the seven Koblenz Christmas markets, including the notable aspects of each one. Take your time walking from one to the next.

Am Plan

The Koblenz Christmas Market at Am Plan features its iconic Christmas Pyramid as its centerpiece. There are twinkling lights, wooden huts and an assortment of vendors selling delicious treats and festive handicrafts.

There are historic buildings all around, and this is the site of where the first Christmas market in the city was held decades prior.

Münzplatz

Münzplatz is the largest square and location for the Koblenz Christmas market. You'll immediately recognize this plaza by the decorative windmill, flanked by wooden stalls.

This is where we found the most souvenirs and handicrafts, along with the most food and drink. I dined on a vegan version of Flammkuchen here, an Alsatian flatbread with vegetables.

Of course, it's a great place to try mulled wine or even mulled beer here.

Liebfrauenkirche

Liebfrauenkirche is the site of the smallest Christmas market in Koblenz. There are only a few huts here, but it's where you can try the fancier version of gluhwein, Feuerzangenbowle (a sugar cone is covered with rum and torched, melting into the gluhwein).

If you're visiting on a weekend, Koblenz artist Manfred Gniffke and his son Michael narrate the Christmas story and Christmas carols in the Koblenz dialect. Also, Santa will make an appearance here from time to time.

Jesuitenplatz

Jesuitenplatz is situated in the heart of Koblenz's Old Town. This is one of the best places in the city to shop for Christmas gifts, including warm knitwear, holiday decorations, smokers, traditional treats and more.

In the windows of the town hall roof, you'll find the city's largest advent calendar. The square is surrounded by half-timbered houses, so it's really such a pretty place to go for a stroll.

Willi-Hörter-Platz

Situated at the historic Koblenz city hall, Willi-Hörter-Platz is a popular place to gather to enjoy a drink. Not only does the chic SchaEngelbar look stunning beneath dazzling lights, but this is where you'll find some of the best wine in Koblenz.

There are Chardonnay white and red mulled wines that come served in wine glasses rather than the Christmas market mugs. We had no problem snagging a seat in the daytime, but this place gets packed in the evening.

Opposite the bar, there's a small display inside the town hall courtyard. There is a small wooden nativity scene along with some Christmas lights. This is a peaceful place amidst the hustle and bustle.

Zentralplatz

Right next to the Forum, Zentralplatz features delightful red and blue huts and some rides for the children. Before you venture into the shopping mall, check out all of the delights and feasts for the senses at the Christmas market.

Görresplatz

This is the newest extension of the Koblenz Christmas market, since 2017. Görresplatz is a cozy square that's most popular with families and kids. There's a small holiday train, heated seating huts, candy and culinary products.

Naturally, there's plenty of gluhwein here, too.

Christmas Garden at Ehrenbreitstein Fortress

Justin and I didn't have the chance to venture up to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, but here are the details if you find yourself with more time in Koblenz at night.

Take the cable car up to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress to see the Christmas light and sound installation, Christmas Garden. It takes place from November 20th to January 4th.

There are spectacular illuminations to witness on this immersive experience. Walk along the pathway to discover dozens of light installations.

Koblenz Christmas Market: Getting There

One of the easiest ways to reach Koblenz is by train. It takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes to reach Koblenz from Frankfurt, and there are at least two to three trains per hour.

From Cologne, it takes around 1 hour to reach Koblenz, and there are at least two to three trains per hour. It's easy to book your train here.
