Old Charm Reykjavik Apartments certainly lives up to its name – it’s a very charming place to stay. While this delightful, colorful house reflects the old charm of downtown Reykjavik, it combines many modern elements. From location to amenities, Old Charm Reykjavik Apartments has everything you’ll need for a convenient and cozy stay in Reykjavik. We spent the last day and night of our two week vacation here before flying home.
OUR APARTMENT
Justin and I stayed in the two bedroom apartment with balcony. Our place was on the second level of the home, so we had to carry our things up one flight of stairs. We had a parking space right beside the house, so it wasn’t any trouble to unload our things and bring them up with us.
When we first entered the apartment, we immediately noticed how clean, modern, and stylish it looked. It combined a minimalist design with a few decorative elements, adding splashes of color in turquoise and red. There were hardwood floors throughout every room, except for the bathroom (which had turquoise tiles).
The living room had a couch, chair, and a flatscreen TV with premium satellite channels. We enjoyed lounging here at the end of the day. The sofa turns into a sofa bed if you’re traveling with a larger family or friends.
There were two bedrooms – one with a double bed, and one with a single bed. Our mattress was very comfortable, and the curtains blocked out the light effectively. We adored the sloped ceilings of the apartment. It really added to the character of the space.
The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to make a delicious, home-cooked meal. There was a full-sized fridge, sink, small oven, stove top, kettle, coffeemaker, toaster, pots and pans, cutlery, plates, and glasses. Even though we didn’t make dinner here (we treated ourselves to a last dinner out at Kaffi Vinyl), we made breakfast in the morning. I also made multiple pots of coffee. After all, I had to use up the coffee grounds that I bought during the trip! Okay, that was a bit of an excuse to drink more coffee. Nothing wrong with that, right?
The bathroom was spacious with a cabinet and lots of room for our toiletries. There was a large shower, and the bathroom itself was quite roomy. Towels and linens were provided with the rental.
One of our favorite aspects of the apartment was the balcony. It offered a glimpse of a downtown street in Reykjavik. The balcony was located off the living room. It was a great place to savor a warm beverage, people watch, and enjoy each other’s company.
Old Charm Reykjavik Apartments also had complimentary fast Wi-Fi.
LOCATION
Old Charm Reykjavik Apartments couldn’t have been in a better location. It was one street away from the main shopping street in town, Laugavegur. Within moments, we could walk anywhere in town, whether it was a restaurant or a store. We could also walk to the Sun Voyager statue, the Harpa concert hall, the harbor, Hallgrimskirkja (the church), or anywhere else we wanted to visit. Reykjavik is an incredibly walkable city, and it helped even more that Old Charm Reykjavik Apartments was so centrally located in town.
THE STAFF
Although we never had the pleasure of meeting the owners, Kristján and Steinunn, they were very pleasant and helpful over email. Any questions that we had were easily answered, and we were able to reach them any time of the day.
Checking in and out of the apartment was an easy process. There was a lock box with a key, and we were provided with the instructions well ahead of time.

THE VERDICT
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and wouldn’t hesitate to book this apartment again. Old Charm Reykjavik Apartments exceeded our expectations. We felt cozy, comfortable, and relaxed right away.
