Punta Cana is a top sun destination in the Caribbean, perfect for escaping the winter blues. With that said, I feel that planning a holiday to the Dominican Republic is a good idea in any season. I've put together a list of the best beaches in Punta Cana that you must experience when you travel there.
There are so many beautiful beaches in the Dominican Republic. By staying in Punta Cana, you'll be near so many gorgeous beaches. It's even possible to experience a new beach every day of your trip.
Did you know that there's 1600km of coastline and over 200 beaches in the Dominican Republic? I've managed to narrow it down to the 10 best beaches in Punta Cana, though you could take day trips to discover others in the region.
I've included a good mix of beaches in this list, like the most popular ones and some hidden gems. Some of these beaches are near resorts, restaurants, bars, and water sports rental companies. Others are a little more natural and less crowded.

The Best Beaches in Punta Cana
Here are the top 10 beaches in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. We'll start with one of the most popular and famous beaches in Punta Cana, Bavaro Beach.
Bavaro Beach
Bavaro Beach isn't only one of the best beaches in Punta Cana; it's one of the best in the world. It's one of the most visited tropical destinations worldwide because the beaches are absolutely stunning.
One main reason why tourists flock to Bavaro Beach are for its calm waters. It's not too wavy, so it's perfect for adults and children of all ages. Plus, it's ideal for standup paddleboarding and kayaking.
Bavaro Beach (Playa Bavaro) is 30 miles long, so there's truly a massive expanse of sand lined with palm trees. There's plenty of room for everyone to enjoy it.
Cabeza de Toro Beach
Cabeza de Toro Beach is named for the shape of the landscape itself, which is in the shape of a bull's head. This is a very natural and clean beach to visit, noted for its crystal clear waters.
This is one of the best beaches in Punta Cana for the snorkeling. As the waters are so clean, clear and calm, it's perfect for donning your snorkeling gear and spotting tropical fish.
Juanillo Beach
Juanillo Beach (Playa Juanillo) is ideal for those staying in the luxury resort area of Cap Cana. It's easy to access this beautiful beach while staying at a Cap Cana resort.
At the same time, it is open to members of the public, so you don't need to stay at a resort to frequent it. You will need to show your ID to a security guard if you aren't staying at one of the resort hotels.
Juanillo Beach offers miles of spectacular, palm-tree lined beach with the soft sand and twinkling waters that you'd come to expect from a pristine Punta Cana beach.
Playa Macao
Playa Macao is a public beach in Punta Cana for all to enjoy, even though it's also a favourite for those staying at resorts. It's pretty close to many popular all-inclusive resorts, making it one of the most popular beaches in Punta Cana.
This is also one of the best beaches for surfing and water activities in Punta Cana. Since the Caribbean Sea is a bit wavy here, it's wonderful for both surfing and learning how to surf for the first time.
Cortecito Beach
Cortecito Beach (Playa El Cortecito) is actually a section of Playa Bavaro. If you love Playa Bavaro, venture to the west side of it next time to visit Playa El Cortecito.
Much like Bavaro Beach, Cortecito Beach is a large, white sand beach with turquoise waters you'll adore. Similarly, it's a great beach to try kayaking, standup paddle boarding, or simply swimming and relaxing.
Bibijagua Beach
Bibijagua Beach (Playa Bibijagua) is another area of Bavaro Beach on the west end of the beach. It's another vast expanse of white sand, surrounded by luxury resorts and properties.
It's not far from restaurants and beach clubs if you're looking to plan your day. It also makes sense to lounge on this beach if you're staying at one of the resorts. Nearby tour companies offer catamaran trips and underwater excursions from Playa Bibijagua.
Isla Saona
Isla Saona is an island destination on the southwestern side of the Dominican Republic. Though it's not in Punta Cana proper, there are many day trips and excursions to go to Isla Saona.
It is part of the Cotubanamá National Park. You can relax at the island's gorgeous beaches or embark on diving expeditions. There's also a very important turtle nesting site on Isla Saona.
Dominicus Beach
Welcome to paradise! Dominicus Beach (Playa Dominicus) is about an hour's drive from Punta Cana, though it's worth the journey. There are soft, white sand beaches and vibrant turquoise waters here.
There are little bars and restaurants with local delicacies. Plus, there's an amazing coral reef surrounding this beach that's ideal for snorkeling and diving. Since this beach is a little off the beaten path, it's not going to be as busy as Bavaro Beach, for instance.
Arena Gorda Beach
If you continue north of Punta Cana, you'll reach Arena Gorda Beach. This is another clean and natural eco-friendly beach with Blue Flag certification.
There are some larger all-inclusive resorts at Arena Gorda Beach, though anyone can relax here. Go for a long walk on the beach and then enjoy a massage beneath a thatched cabana.
There are also opportunities to go snorkeling or diving here. It's also great for kids as there are lifeguards present, plus the waters are pretty calm.
Uvero Alto Beach
Finally, at the northernmost point of Punta Cana lies the dazzling Uvero Alto Beach. There are white sands and palm trees everywhere you look. This is a wide sandy beach that's also pretty peaceful.
Even though there are resorts at Uvero Alto Beach, the beach stretches on for miles. Much of it feels untouched.
There are some areas where the water gets quite wavy. It may be unsuitable for swimming at times, though it's excellent for body boarding and surfing.
