Using a hotel’s day pass option is the best way to relax before an evening flight.
We traveled aboard the MSC Divina cruise ship for 10 days, arriving back in Miami on a Sunday morning. When Justin and I looked at booking our flights home, there were some pretty outrageous prices for ones during the daytime. We had no choice but to book a late evening flight from Miami to Toronto at 9:00pm. As we disembarked the cruise ship at around 9:00am, what were we going to do all day long?
A Miami hotel day pass was the best option for us and the clear winner when we pursued various scenarios. As we were coming off a 10 day cruise, we had suitcases and backpacks that we couldn’t exactly lug around Miami all day long. We didn’t want to travel too far as we only had the day in the city, as we had to be at the airport around 6 or 7pm. Furthermore, we spent several days in the Caribbean and weren’t looking to do anything too adventurous with the last several hours of our holidays.

How we Ended up at the Hotel
Well, you see, we had planned to spend the day at a hotel from the start. I looked everything up ahead of time, and even touched base with the hotel’s management to make sure they offered day passes.
However, sometimes things don’t go exactly as planned.
From the cruise port, Justin and I caught an Uber to our original choice for a hotel. After we gathered our luggage from the car and bid our Uber driver farewell, we couldn’t find the front entrance of the hotel. After walking around the side of the building, we discovered that there was some damage to the hotel from Hurricane Irma. It was under construction and temporarily closed, and we didn’t know what to do.
After some quick Googling and discussing, Justin and I took another Uber to the COMO Metropolitan Miami Beach. To our relief, this hotel also offered day passes.
A Warm Welcome
The COMO Metropolitan Miami Beach is halfway between South Beach and Mid Beach, along a beautiful stretch of white sand facing the water. The two of us were warmly welcomed upon our arrival, and the front desk staff took care of everything. Our luggage was safely stowed, and we had access to our things whenever we liked.
A staff member took us on a little tour of the property, showing us everything that we had access to use throughout our stay.
What’s Included in Your Miami Day Pass
For $65 per person, our day pass included use of the outdoor swimming pool (with towels), an umbrella and chairs at the beach, use of the hydrotherapy spa on the rooftop, and 15% off food and beverages.
While we didn’t dine at the property, they had a short food menu available by the pool, as well as a more extensive menu at their restaurant. There was also a lengthy bar menu, though we ended up sipping the complimentary and very refreshing fruit flavoured water.
We purchased the day passes directly from the hotel front desk, and there was no issue buying them on the spot.
Let me show you how we spent our day lounging around South Beach with our Miami hotel day pass.
Relaxing By The Pool
Justin and I spent a good portion of our morning and afternoon by the swimming pool. We loved this peaceful space so much that we laid on these lounger chairs twice in one day. The pool wasn’t busy at all, no matter what time we were there. The water was very warm and refreshing.
The lounger chairs had really comfortable padding on them, and there was an abundance of plush towels.
You could order drinks from the bar or stay hydrated with the complimentary fruit flavoured water.
If you aren’t relaxed enough by the pool, unwind in a hammock tied between two palm trees at the back of the hotel property.
We walked right from the back of the COMO Metropolitan hotel to the beach. The hotel directly faces the ocean. From the back of the hotel, we crossed a wooden boardwalk right to the white, sandy beach.
If you haven’t ever experienced splashing around in the ocean in Miami, it’s something you should definitely do. The beaches here are so spectacular. I could stare out at those turquoise waters for hours on end.
Like I mentioned earlier, every guest with a day pass for the COMO Metropolitan Miami Beach can use the chairs out at the beach, as well as the umbrellas.
Rooftop and Hydrotherapy Spa
One of the intriguing features of the COMO Metropolitan Miami Beach was the rooftop area with the hydrotherapy spa. This addition set this hotel apart from other Miami hotel day passes we noticed in our (quick and frantic) research.
We took the elevator up to the top floor and were treated to beautiful views from both sides of the roof.
First, we explored the area facing west, towards the river.
Next, we ventured to check out the main attraction: the hydrotherapy pool. There’s a massive, jetted pool there, and we had it all to ourselves. Furthermore, there are comfortable day beds with plush mattresses overlooking the beach and the ocean. It’s the ideal spot to relax in the sunshine. The hydrotherapy spa area was so peaceful, and we just loved it.
Nearby Vegan Eats
While the restaurant at the COMO Metropolitan Miami Beach could surely prepare a vegan meal for us, we wanted to go to a nearby
vegan restaurant called Plnthouse. It was just a short walk down the boardwalk towards the back of the 1 Hotel South Beach.
Plnthouse is a posh restaurant, and its patio faces the ocean. Although the interior dining area is natural and airy, we opted to eat our meal outdoors in the beautiful sunshine.
UPDATE: I wrote my original blog post about Plnthouse when it was a vegan restaurant, but it has recently reverted to serving meat and hardly any vegan options. With so many amazing vegan restaurants in Miami, I don’t recommend going there unless they change their menu back.
Miami Hotel Day Pass for Cruise Passengers
If you’re coming off a cruise ship and don’t have a flight until the late afternoon or early evening, definitely consider stopping by the COMO Metropolitan Hotel in Miami Beach and spending your day there. We felt thoroughly relaxed and refreshed before travelling to the airport to board our flight back home.
Otherwise, we wouldn’t have known where to store our luggage in order to have a lovely day in Miami. While there are lots of interesting things to see and do in Miami, such as visiting the outdoor art at Wynwood Walls, sometimes you want to have an easy day before a hectic airport trip.
Through resting by the pool, soaking up the sunshine at the beach, and enjoying a rejuvenating soak at the hydrotherapy rooftop pool, we thoroughly enjoyed our day at the COMO Metropolitan Miami Beach. We wouldn’t hesitate to plan our day there again if we find ourselves with another evening flight back home.
