We are extremely excited to announce that we’re headed to Bermuda for four days this week, from Thursday, October 30th – Sunday, November 2nd. A couple of months ago, we had no idea that we’d be boarding a plane and flying to a tropical island destination. However, we entered a contest….and we won!
Justin and I entered a video contest in conjunction with Fairmont Hotels called My Destination Story. We had to create a video based on a destination of our choice showing our adventures and the hidden gems that could be discovered there. Our entry video about my hometown of Dundas, Ontario, Canada was selected as one of the 42 winning videos. This means that we were chosen for the second phase of the contest. There are 42 winners and there are 42 Fairmont resorts and hotels in North America. Each winner will travel to one of their hotels, and we are so lucky to be selected to visit beautiful Bermuda.
Here’s where the second phase of the contest comes into play. Not only did we win a vacation with hotel and flights included, but we also won a GoPro camera and $500 in spending money. While we are in Bermuda, we will be shooting some footage with the GoPro camera. When we return home, we will edit together a second video of Bermuda to be entered into the second phase of the contest. The grand prize winner will be selected from the 42 videos, and that person will win a week long vacation to any destination of their choice in North America! Fingers crossed that we win! Oh, and we won’t be able to show you our original entry video about Dundas until the contest is over, but we’re very proud of it and hope you can see it soon.

For now, we are so completely excited to be headed to Bermuda. The weather here is rather dreary right now, and I’m dreaming of the pink sand beaches and turquoise waters. The famous pink sand beaches in Bermuda are created by red shells and coral reef that have been crushed by the surf and have washed up on the shores. Besides soaking up the sun, we’re also hoping to find some great snorkeling sites.
We’ll be staying at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess in Pembroke Parish. The hotel is so luxurious and offers gorgeous views overlooking the Hamilton Harbour. We can’t wait to see what awaits us at the hotel, and we’re really looking forward to swimming in the infinity pool. We’ve been assured that the chefs can create delicious vegan meals for us, so we’re pretty excited about that!
While our itinerary hasn’t been finalized yet, we have many options for sights and activities while we’re there. I doubt we’ll be able to do everything over the four days, but some ideas we’re throwing around right now include:
- Visiting the historic town of St. George and its Fortifications, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
- Renting scooters and driving all over the island, or from beach to beach
- Exploring Tom Moore’s Jungle and Blue Hole Park – a jungle that leads to some cliffs where you can swim in the middle of a cave
- Drinking a few rum swizzles at the Swizzle Inn (the official beverage of Bermuda)
- A tour of the Crystal Caves
- Playing a round of mini putt at Bermuda Fun Golf, a miniature golf course where its holes resemble ones at famous golf courses in the USA, Scotland, and Bermuda
- Water activities like kayaking, paddleboarding, surfing, or jet skiing
- View amazing sunsets
