We’re Grateful to be Honoured Again!

We’re so thankful to be nominated for another Liebster Award! It is our third time being honoured by our fellow travel bloggers and we are very grateful that you enjoy reading our blog so much. This time, Have Blog Will Travel has nominated us and we are happy to answer their interview questions!

How did you choose the name of your blog?

Our blog’s name is relatively self-explanatory – it is comprised of our names! We used “plus” to show that we are a couple who travels together – as though it would be Justin + Lauren with the plus sign fully written out.

Definitely our camera! It doesn’t matter if we’re going out for the afternoon or flying to an international destination – a camera is a must-pack item. Most of the time, we’ll try to use our nice DSLR Canon camera, but other times it might just be a point-and-click camera or our cell phone cameras. We love to document our travels and our times together with lots of photos! After all, a travel blog would be rather boring if there weren’t any beautiful pictures!

Right now, it’s definitely Italy for us! That’s why we are currently preparing to travel to Italy at some time in 2015. Stay tuned!

I would love to have some sort of teleportation powers where I could instantaneously transport myself to any place in the world! This would come in handy for traveling across the world…and even to work on a daily basis to battle the awful Toronto commute! Although, if I had those kinds of powers, I could likely work any place that I wanted…or be any place that I wanted…so maybe work would have to be in some tropical locale during the winter months!

I suppose it wouldn’t be one post, but our series of posts from our Caribbean cruise this past January of 2014. We spent a lot of time putting together engaging blog posts with lots of photos, stories, and videos edited quickly to music. You can check out the whole collection!

If this was a few months back, I would have likely said packing, or waiting for a flight, or even returning from a trip! Now, I would have to say that I dread leaving our kitten, Chickpea behind! We adopted him from the Humane Society a few months ago and he is a very important part of our family now! We dread the times that we will have to leave him at a cat boarding place (we’re looking at local cat “hotels” for this!). Thankfully, my sister will be taking care of him when we go away for overnight stays, but for trips that are longer, we will have to decide where he will stay. I feel bad that we have to leave him behind because he loves being at home with us.

Share with us one fact most people may not know about you.

We both have similar fears – we are both a bit afraid of heights, and we are both a bit (translate for me: a LOT) afraid of spiders/centipedes/bugs! This may pose a problem when traveling in the future. I’m able to overcome the fear of heights a lot easier than Justin, and he’s able to overcome the fear of bugs a lot easier than me. So far, we’ve been able to work this out…he takes care of the bugs and…well, I make him go on the Ferris Wheel at every theme park we attend! The heights thing doesn’t keep us from visiting places that are really high up, although I can’t see us going skydiving or bungee jumping any time soon!

If you could only eat one food item for the rest of your life what would it be?

This is going to sound pretty generic but….PIZZA. We could probably eat that forever. The bread…the sauce…the veggies…it’s all so delicious!

What is your best travel memory to date?

The cruise is definitely our best travel memory to date! But since we already mentioned the cruise, our vacation to Montreal last summer was really special. We adored walking around Old Montreal and Old Port, and visiting all of the yummy vegan restaurants. Our Montreal trip was so special to us that we hope to return this summer!

Where are you off to next?

Very shortly, we’ll be visiting the Finger Lakes region of New York State. We’ll be staying overnight at Farm Sanctuary in a cabin! It is a charitable organization that I’m really passionate about, and it will be quite the experience staying right on the farm amongst the rescued animals. We’re also hoping to do some hiking in nearby gorges and of course, visiting the vegan dining establishments in the area.

Big hugs to Have Blog Will Travel for thinking about us! Now, we have to nominate 5 blogs, and here they are:

So wonderful to get to know you two a little bit more. Also, chickpea is an adorable name for a cat. Love it.

Thanks again!!! Yes he definitely suits the name and it’s many incarnations…Bean, Beansie, Lil Bean, Lil, and the list goes on… :)

  2. Based on your instagram photos, Chickpea is too adorable so I can understand why you’d hate to leave her. I put my cat up at a boarding house for a couple days during a longer trip once too and it actually wasn’t bad at all. They sent me daily photos and updates of her stay.

It’s really tough leaving him behind just for one evening! We haven’t had to board him yet, but it would be better if he could stay with friends. We have a place in mind that looks really nice if we do ever have to board him, it’s a “cat hotel” and it looks really lovely!

  3. How did you decide whose name is first in the title? I think the posts on your Caribbean cruise was when I first found you and they convinced me to keep coming back to read more. Italy is next on our travel list (10 days from now!), and my son is looking forward to it because when we encouraged him to try the local food as we always do when we travel, he could legitimately pick pizza.

I have no idea how we decided that! I do mostly all of the blogging, writing, and site maintaining (this is Lauren) and Justin helps a lot with the videos and the photography. I think that I just decided to put Justin’s name first for some reason…to which he replied when I asked him your questions, “You should have put your name first, you do all of the work!” haha. I suppose it doesn’t matter too much :) You must be SO EXCITED for Italy! I can’t wait to read all about your trip, I’m sure it will help me plan our trip for next year! Mmmm….pizza!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! and thank you so much for the nomination! I’m totally working on the post (just a little behind). And I cannot agree more that in Toronto you NEED teleportation!! NO matter where you have to go you always have to allow yourself an hour an 15 minutes, it is crazy! I’m also working on a little post about dressing for Rome in May! It involves layers, rain gear and sunscreen :)
