It’s a healthy and nutritious meal delivery service for vegan meals.
There are so many benefits to using a meal delivery service. First, it’s convenient and a huge time saver. You don’t need to do groceries or cook, potentially saving you hours and hours of time. Last, you can try different foods and meals you might not have eaten before. You’ll discover new favourites in the process. Did you know that there’s a vegan meal delivery service in Toronto and the GTA? Allow me to introduce you to ActivEats!
Why Choose ActivEats?
While ActivEats offers a meal plan for omnivores, there’s an entirely plant-based menu that I was eager to taste. They contribute to a completely balanced diet, as created and prepared by a chef, licensed nutritionist, food safety specialist, and cooks. Every meal plan comes with a print out highlighting every meal, along with a nutritional breakdown of calories and amounts of carbs, fat, protein, sodium, and so on. You can choose between 1500 calorie (the fit menu) and 2000 calorie (the balanced menu) meal plans. The vegan meal plan is also gluten-free. Every day, you’ll be eating a healthy selection of foods providing a complete nutrition. You won’t need to eat anything in addition to the meals. Even if you aren’t vegan, I encourage you to try a plant-based diet to try something new and try healthy food that’s good for you, the animals, and the planet.
My Reasons for Trying ActivEats
ActivEats is a fantastic choice for those who have busy lives (who doesn’t?). For those working full time jobs, it’s a dream having a fridge full of food that you didn’t have to cook yourself. At the same time, it’s much healthier than eating fast food. For my situation, ActivEats vegan meal delivery service arrived just at the right time in my life. I recently fractured my right ankle and I’m unable to drive. I’m currently wearing a walking boot, but it’s difficult to go grocery shopping or prepare meals. ActivEats to the rescue! It was wonderful having 15 different meals in my fridge without having to worry at all. I’m also grateful for their fit menu as I’m unable to exercise or move around much until my ankle gets better. It’s easy to gain weight by sitting on the couch all day, but ActivEats keeps my caloric intake regulated so this won’t happen.
Home Delivered Meals
ActivEats sent me 5 breakfasts, lunches, and dinners (15 meals in total) so I could write about them and review the entire process, from delivery to consumption. You can also order 7 days worth of meals or you can choose to order only lunches and dinners. On Sunday around noon, there was a knock on my door and a delivery person dropped off a big cardboard box of food. As you can see, every meal is fresh and prepackaged. They stay good for 10 days in the fridge or you can freeze them if you think you will eat them at a later date. I ate mine within five days so they were fine to stay in the fridge.
Other than one oatmeal breakfast (I had to add almond milk), every meal was all ready to go. They’re all cooked ahead of time and you can eat them directly from the package. Some of the meals need to be heated up and you can do so in a conventional oven or microwave. The containers are BPA-free so you can eat them straight from the package. It was also awesome not having to do as many dishes as usual!
My Meal Plan
ActivEats has two weeks of meal plans that are completely different from one another. If you choose to order from them on a regular basis, you won’t repeat a single meal for two weeks. All of my 15 dishes were different and I loved the variety. I received this sheet of paper with my order, which details my order:
For breakfast, I ate a High Fiber Oatmeal with Seeds. Lunch was the Tofu Pad Thai. And for dinner, I ate a Vegan No Crab Cake with Arugula. In total, I ate 1550 calories that day, with 208g of carbs, 58g of protein, and 61g of fat. I really enjoyed the pad Thai sauce with the tofu, and the no crab cakes were made completely from vegetables and were seasoned perfectly.
I’m normally the type of person who skips breakfast or grabs a bagel on the go. A bowl of cereal is as fancy as I might get. However, for the past five days, I’ve been eating gourmet breakfasts every morning. This Cauliflower Wrap was filled with mildly spiced mushrooms and veggies in a gluten-free wrap. For lunch, I ate a Tropical Bean and Quinoa dish, and for dinner I enjoyed a Kale and Roasted Squash with Quinoa. Both lunch and dinner could be eaten cold or hot. I was surprised at the size of the portions. I often could only finish half of the meal and ended up saving the second half as a snack for later!
For breakfast on day 3, I ate this Superfood Quinoa Berry Bowl. It took me a moment to wrap my mind around eating quinoa for breakfast, but I quickly discovered that it’s a great alternative to oats or cereal. The pumpkin seeds added a great little crunch, too! For lunch, I heated up a Veggie Bean Chili that served as two or three smaller meals. It was so filling and super tasty! Once dinner time rolled around, I savoured my Cauliflower & Chickpea Burger with a gluten-free bun. It was paired with a small kale salad for the side or as a topping on the burger.
On day 4, I discovered my favourite breakfast meal, the Tofu Scramble with Veggies. This tofu scramble blows any kind of egg-based scramble out of the water. It was perfectly spiced and included black beans and veggies. There was enough filling to go far beyond the two wraps, too! For lunch, I ate a meal of Noodles with Chickpeas and Veggies. At dinnertime, I ate my favourite dinner of all five dishes, General Tso’s Cauliflower with Rice. The cauliflower was absolutely delicious!
On my final day of this vegan meal delivery service, I ate Chia Pudding with Fruits for breakfast. Lunch was a Teriyaki Tempeh with Soba Noodles (I adore tempeh so I was excited to see this one on the list!), and dinner was a Turmeric Vegetable Rice with Mushrooms.
