For our latest installment of Travel Blogger Thursday, we interviewed Albert & Dichi of Couples Travel Adventures. We felt an instant connection to these two as we’re also a couple that travels together. I’ve loved following along their blog as they’ve recently visited destinations in the Caribbean and Central America – it brings back the fantastic memories of our recent Caribbean vacation! Let’s discover what inspires this lovely couple to travel the world!
How did you both meet and is travel involved?
We were actually friends on Facebook before we met in person. I saw a photo of him that a mutual friend posted and thought “wow he’s handsome!!” and I sent him a friend request. I immediately noticed on his Facebook that he was a travel addict, but I didn’t think much of it. We met a few months later at a party in Los Angeles. Albert flew in from New York to attend the party, and we both knew mutual friends there. We were just friends for months before we realized that our chemistry was undeniable, and decided to start a long distance relationship. Travel is definitely involved, and is something that Albert was doing for years before I met him. He has flown to LA from New York several times just to have a lunch date with me, and get right back on the plane and fly back to New York. Being in a long distance relationship has actually made us travel way more & find cool places to meet each other.
We travel to experience different cultures, foods, music, meet new people, and most importantly LEARN. Traveling is an exceptional teacher. Every time we come back from a trip, we are already thinking about the next place we can explore. Once you get a taste, you just can’t stop. There is so much of the world that we have yet to see, and we hope that we will get the opportunity to create priceless memories in more countries. We feel extremely blessed and grateful that we have been able to visit 11 countries together so far. Individually Albert has visited over 20 countries, and I have been to 14 countries. What we enjoy most about traveling is meeting local people, and really learning about the culture. We always ask them to take us where they eat, and where they hang out. We like to ride public transportation, and try our best to blend in a bit. A tour guide can give you the general story, but a local person will tell you a unique story that you may never forget. We also love getting to spend priceless moments together, being silly and romantic.
Where is your favourite destination and why?
Our favorite destination is Barbados. We had such a wonderful experience when we visited Barbados, and the people were so kind. We stayed at 2 different hotels, on different sides of the island. One hotel was secluded and quiet, while the other was in the middle of the city. We fell in love with the entire atmosphere, because it was so relaxed, yet vibrant and welcoming! Barbados is absolutely breathtaking, and full of culture. One of our favorite moments in Barbados was visiting Pebbles Beach, and watching the sunset together.
We started Couples Travel Adventures because we want to share our travel stories. We want to inspire other couples to travel and see the world together, because we know that it can create an amazing bond between two people. You learn so much about your partner when you are both in an unfamiliar environment, exploring and trying new things together. Before starting our website, people would ask us questions about specific destinations, or how to save up for trips. We wanted to use the website as a place to answer those questions, because we know there are lots of couples who want to travel, but just don’t know how to take the first step.
What do you like to bring back from the places you’ve visited?
I have a box of our memories, and it is full of hotel room keys, flight tickets, train tickets etc. Albert loves to buy a shirt that says the name of the place we are visiting. I also like to bring back a body that isn’t full of mosquito bites!!! When we got back from Belize I had over 40 bites!!
There are so many beautiful places that we want to visit. We are hoping that within the next 5 years we will visit: Greece, Bora Bora, Costa Rica, Singapore, South Africa, Panama, Brazil.. just to name a few.
Thank you so much for the wonderful interview, Albert & Dichi – it has been great getting to know you better and we can’t wait to see where you travel next! They blog at Couples Travel Adventures and you can also connect with them on Facebook!
