For this week’s edition of Travel Blogger Thursday, we learn more about Adelina of the travel blog, Pack Me To. Adelina is one of the hosts of the popular #SundayTraveler Blog Link Up and that’s how I became a regular reader of her blog. She’s traveled to many destinations around the world and has lived abroad in the Netherlands and Hungary. Currently, she’s exploring her hometown of Vancouver, B.C. Join me as we interview Adelina!
What inspires you to travel and what do you enjoy most about traveling?
As cheesy as it may sound, the world and the people on it inspire me to travel. The world is such a big place and there are millions of experiences to be had and stories waiting to be told. I enjoy the thrill of discovering a place for the first time. It could be as specific as finding the perfect bowl of noodle soup in the sketchiest food stall to just exploring a city on foot – that excitement of discovery is what keeps me going.
Where is your favourite destination and why?
This is a hard one! There are so many places that I like for various reasons. I am definitely a city person. I love the hustle and bustle that comes in a large city. I’m also a massive history buff and I love places that have a story to tell. Based on whether or not I could see myself living in a place, I would go with London or Berlin, but then again, I also really love Slovenia
When did you start to travel, and where did you first visit?
The first country I visited was the United States with my parents when I was really young. Both of my parents enjoyed travel and saw no reason to not bring their young child along. However, the first time I went abroad on my own was to the Netherlands to study for a term. While there I traveled through many countries in Europe with newly made friends.
Why did you start your blog, and what do you enjoy most about blogging?
I started my blog for a couple of reasons. I’ve always enjoyed sharing stories and talking about my travels. Friends and family had started turning towards me for advice on what to do in various cities so I thought a blog would be a good place to refer to them. Another major reason I started my blog was because I was in the process of going through reverse culture shock and writing about my travels was my way of connecting my previous life to my current life – a form of self medication if you will.
The thing I most enjoy about blogging is the ability to relive a trip by writing about it and looking at all the pictures I took. My writing process usually involves doing a lot of research about the place (even more than before going!) and it’s so much fun to find out random bits of trivia about places that I’ve seen with my own two eyes.
What do you like to bring back from the places you’ve visited?
As a photo junkie, I love buying postcards. They’re an affordable souvenir that generally have fabulous photography on them. Depending on feasibility, I also like bringing home food and snacks for family and friends to try and the occasional cookbook.
Where do you plan on visiting next?
A couple friends and I are planning a road trip from Vancouver down to Portland and then along the Oregon coast. I’m really excited! I’ve heard so many great things about the coast and I’m looking forward to checking it out for myself.
Thank you so much for being interviewed, Adelina! Can’t wait to read about your trip to Portland as we’d love to go there someday, too. To read more about Adelina’s adventures, please check out the Pack Me To blog. You can also follow on social media:
