An elegant boutique hotel that’s the ultimate place to stay in South Beach.
We lucked out when we booked our stay at Hotel Croydon Miami Beach. I traveled to Miami with my sister, Robyn. We were set to sail aboard the inaugural cruise of the Fathom Adonia. Sadly, we never got to board the cruise ship, and the cruise was never cleared to leave the port. We were left with no travel plans. There was the option to board a plane and head straight back to Toronto. But, we didn’t want our vacation to end right there. With some quick thinking, we managed to book a 5-day Carnival cruise that left the port just one hour after we found out the Fathom sailing was canceled. I’m still amazed that we managed to book another cruise that quickly!
Keeping our flight schedule the same as the original booking, we ended up with an extra night (and two days) in Miami. On board the Carnival Sensation, we used the ship’s Wi-Fi to search for hotels in South Beach. We discovered Hotel Croydon because it had a combination of good reviews and a great price. Robyn and I wanted to book a hotel in South Beach that had a swimming pool and was near the beach. Other than that, we really didn’t know anything else about this hotel.
Taking a chance on Hotel Croydon Miami Beach worked in our favor. We fell in love with this boutique accommodation.
Hotel Croydon Miami Beach (3720 Collins Avenue, at 38th Street) is north of the busiest areas in South Beach. The hotel, however, doesn’t feel like it’s too isolated or distant. Robyn and I walked to attractions like Lincoln Road, which took about 20-30 minutes. It’s very inexpensive to take an Uber anywhere in the city. We traveled to the city center for only a few dollars using an Uber cab. We liked that the area wasn’t mobbed with people because it was never too noisy outside. The stretch of beach across the road wasn’t busy at all. There was a little market cafe only a block away (Primo Cafe & Market) where I enjoyed a great cup of bold Cuban coffee.
Decorated completely in earthy tones, the room felt very soothing, yet posh and modern. There were two queen beds, a flatscreen TV, and large windows that let in lots of sunshine (and curtains that kept it all out). The beds have a “cooling gel memory foam”, which were very comfortable. The luxurious bathroom had a glass enclosed shower and deluxe toiletries. The small details, such as a little vase of orchids in the bathroom, made us feel right at home.
Our room overlooked the quiet swimming pool area, surrounded by padded loungers.
The swimming pool was a tranquil getaway in the middle of the busy city. The pool was never busy, even on a Saturday. The loungers around the pool were padded and they even had pillows. I’m pretty sure I fell asleep on one of them. Surrounded by lush greenery with the sun shining brightly overhead, it was the perfect place to unwind.
There was complimentary Wi-Fi at the hotel, so we were able to stay connected.
The hotel had its own restaurant called The Tavern, and there was a happy hour from 7pm-8pm with complimentary drinks.
We also adored the rooftop patio. On the roof above the seventh floor, there were 360 degree views of Miami Beach. We caught glimpses of a meandering river, tall palm trees, and the vibrant, turquoise ocean. Though we didn’t get to attend, there were complimentary yoga classes – Saturdays at noon up on the roof. If we had a little more time, I imagine this would be the best place to curl up and read a book. Those chairs were super comfy!
Can you tell that I was having an awesome time?!
I really can’t say enough positive things about the hotel’s employees. From the moment we arrived, the front desk and bellhop staff were accommodating, helpful, and friendly. After our overnight stay, we didn’t have to return to the airport until 6:00pm. The staff had no problem letting us hang out at the hotel, even after we checked out. They stored our luggage for us safely in a secured location. We used the swimming pool, the rooftop patio, and the beach after our stay had officially ended. And they didn’t charge us anything extra!
Robyn and I borrowed a pair of towels from the front desk and set off to the beach. The beach was right across the street. Hotel Croydon had its own section of sand with their own blue loungers. We grabbed a couple of chairs no problem, with the help of the friendly attendant who attached comfortable padded cushions to them. We absolutely adored this beach area. It was not crowded, not loud, and not busy at all. We could listen to the waves gently crashing against the shore. Even though there were other people around, it still felt like the beach was ours. And what a gorgeous beach it was.
FREE AIRPORT SHUTTLE
We didn’t even realize this when we booked the hotel. Hotel Croydon offers a complimentary airport shuttle, both for pick-up and drop-off. Just book your airport shuttle time at the front desk of the hotel, though it seems to arrive every hour. It was a nice perk that we didn’t have to worry about finding a taxi or an Uber at the end of our vacation.
Yes, yes, yes – stay here! We really couldn’t fault the hotel for anything. The staff truly went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. It was worth staying at this hotel for swimming pool alone. We also had the spectacular beach just a short walk away. The small details set Hotel Croydon apart from the competitors – complimentary happy hour, yoga, a rooftop patio, and the list goes on.
Even though we didn’t do any research ahead of time, we clearly chose a winner when we randomly picked Hotel Croydon. Now, when you visit Miami Beach, you won’t have to worry about doing any guessing.
Just book your stay at Hotel Croydon – I know you’ll love it as much as we did.
