Dreaming about chasing the sunshine in California? You’re not alone. As this winter drags on and on, I’m thinking more about jetting off to a destination like California. If you’re worried about expensive hotel rates, you might want to check out these California cities. You’ll discover the charm of this US state without breaking the bank.

Concord

Have you ever heard of Concord, California? Neither have I. You can visit the Bay Area while keeping to your budget. Booking a room at the affordable Pleasant Hill Inn allows you to stay just off the main highway, the I-680. As Concord is on the BART regional rail system, you can easily access cities like San Francisco or Oakland. There are many events in Concord worth visiting, like the Berkeley Kite Festival or the Tomato Royale Food Fight. If you love wine, take a tour at one of the local wineries and vineyards. In the summer, there are numerous farmer’s markets where you can find fresh produce grown locally in the region.

Torrance

Torrance is also a little known tourist destination. Be sure to travel there before people discover it! Torrance has a stunning beach where you can lay down your towel and soak up the sunshine all day long. Although the best hotel rates are during November to March, this is the region’s rainy season. You are taking your chances with the unpredictable weather if you travel during these months. It might be best to visit in the summer.

South Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe is home to many wonderful attractions, including the biggest alpine lake in the United States. While South Lake Tahoe is gorgeous in the summer, it is known mostly for its ski slopes in the winter. Whether it’s the summer or winter, there are many activities to enjoy in South Lake Tahoe: golfing, snowboarding, hiking, biking, skiing, swimming, and many more. South Lake Tahoe also has a lively nightlife and vibrant casinos.

Glendale

Glendale might be a suburb of Los Angeles, but it’s a great destination of its own. Glendale is near the Verdugo Mountains, with many open public spaces. The Glendale Galleria is a haven for shopping lovers, with four huge department stores and 200 shops. There’s also the Americana at Brand complex across the street with 75 stores. Of course, you can easily visit Los Angeles by way of bus or train from Glendale.

Escondido

Escondido is near San Diego, about 30 miles away. There are many hotels here in every price range. San Diego is a beautiful city with beaches for swimming and relaxing. There are many parks, including the Balboa Park with its stunning botanic gardens. You can view migrating whales in the winter from San Diego’s coastline. Staying in Escondido is an affordable option for anyone wishing the explore the city. There are some hotels listed at under $80 per night that include breakfast, a kitchenette, a fitness center, and a swimming pool.
